This is a great collection of Robert De Niro Films if you are not fussed about them not being in their original packaging. You get 4 films in 2 Blu ray boxes in a slip case. I have not given a synopsis of each film as most people know the stories, i have just given the specs on each film.
Heat specs are- 170 mins,16x9 2.4:1, Dolby True HD, Subtitles, Bonus Features - Commentary by Director, Making Of, Deleted Scenes, Trailers. over all it is a good transfer, worth the upgrade from DVD, but the colour is not as vivid as the DVD, it's a slight faded colour, it's like you have selected the warm setting on your tv options.
Goodfellas specs are - 145 mins, 16x9 1.85, Dolby Digital 5.1, Bonus Features - Commentary Cast and Crew, Cop and Crook, Getting Made - Interviews, new and vintage 29 mins, Made Men Goodfellas Legacy 13 mins, Paper is Cheaper Than Film 4 mins,The work a day gangster 8 mins, Theatrical Trailer, all bonus footage in 4.3 picture. I think this is a great upgrade from the DVD, picture is great now it's in 16.9 compared to the DVD in 4.3.
The Mission specs are - 125 mins,16x9 2.4:1 DTS HD Master, Commetary by Director, Omnibus the making of 57 mins (4.3 picture), picture is good and clear.
Once Upon A Time In America specs are - 229 mins, 16x9 1.78:1 DTS HD Master, Behind the Story 19 mins, Once upon a time Sergio Leone, Theatrical Trailer, picture and sound fantastic.

This bluray box set contains the older transfer or Goodfellas (NOT the 25 anniversary bluray) and Once Upon a Time in America. The older transfer of Goodfellas doesn't have great picture quality as well as lossy (DD 5.1) audio. The Once Upon a time in America version is NOT the directors cut with the new transfer. Basically, if you're interested in watching the films how the director intended with the best quality available buy them separately and make sure you pick up the latest transfers.

You have four wonderful movies for less than the price of one in this excellent box set! Each transfer is good and solid an in some cases outstanding. The only depressing factor is to see how much better film making once was than it is today! The sophistication, scope and emotional impact of each of these blu rays is so profound and leaves the majority of contemporary productions standing in the dark! Excellent plots, direction, design and performances endure four long and impressive cinematic epics which blow you away! Highly recommended!

The best actor in the world par none has an enormous collection of films in one boxset; it is GREAT news! Featuring: 'Heat', 'The Mission', 'This Boy's Life', 'Goodfellas', and 'City By The Sea', this is a classic collection. I will only review two films but only because I don't want to spoil this boxset...too much!
'Heat' is an awesome crime drama. Robert DeNiro is a criminal mastermind (Neil McCauley), an mastermind in high-stake robberies. Al Pacino (Vincent Hanna) is an obsessive cop who will get McCauley, no matter what the consequences. Hanna is assigned to a case involving McCauley and some heists. What follows is an explosive cat-and-mouse game.
Both DeNiro and Pacino give excellent performances. The storyline concentrates on one thing - the hunt; however, it intelligently weaves facts about Hanna and McCauley into the film as well.
The movie is three hours long, yet it does not get boring. Val Kilmer, John Voight, Ashley Judd, Dennis Haysbert and Wes Studi play excellent supporting actors.
'Goodfellas' is a tale of the rise and fall of a Mafioso and is pure genius; Scorsese is a GENIUS. Ray Liotta (Henry Hill) a kid who spends his life running with Paul Cicero's (Paul Sorvino) family, which includes Irishman Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) and hair-trigger tempered Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci). He gets married and has children. With Paul cracking down on his own family and his growing run-ins with the police, he decides to enter the Witness Protection Program with his wife (Lorraine Bracco).
His view of the Mafia give you an exhilarating feel of adrenaline, yet realise the seriousness of the situation. For while you may be making thousands of dollars yet others may be plotting your death. At the end, when Henry finally gets out of the Mafia life, you feel as if he was a traitor
Liotta and Pesci play excellent roles and act with finesse. Goodfellas is a very good movie and is possibly one of DeNiro's greatest.
