Nice, bit sweet
on 21 February 2014
I bought this for my wife for Valentine's as she loves gin and raspberries and has Scottish heritage. I admit I didn't read the description properly - I was expecting it to have a higher alcohol content. At 20% it's more like a liqueur.
It is pleasant and has a lovely pink colour, even when mixed with tonic, and you can certainly taste the raspberries! However it's a little sweet for my tastes - a squeeze of lime helps with that though and complements the raspberries nicely.
It's also quite pricey for just 50cl - my mum and dad make their own versions of fruity booze by mixing a cheap bottle of whisky, gin, rum or vodka with a good amount of berries (from their very own productive little fruit patch) and some sugar, then leaving it for 3-6 months, shaking/up-ending the bottle every now and then. They have made their own blackberry whiskey, sloe gin, blackcurrant rum, and raspberry vodka this way - all of them delicious! So before buying, consider making your own! :-)
