Great except it does not arrive till the afternoon
on 16 September 2010
Further discussions with Amazon did establish that there was a problem with my account that caused the very late delivery, into the afternoon. However, those discussions also established that the "normal" delivery time for the Kindle in the UK is 10 A.M., because the Times does not provide the Kindle package to Amazon until 5 a.m. New York time. I was also told that periodic delays of an hour or more beyond 10 am are to be expected. And indeed that's right. Today, for example--Sunday, Sept 26--it is now 11:25 a.m. and I have still not received the Sunday paper.
I've relucantly concluded I need to cancel my subscription. I will read the Times on the web--less pleasant than on the Kindle, but the complete paper is there early in the morning each day, quite reliably.
PRIOR POST (Edited down, since portions of it are no longer relevant)
I've had the NY Times subscription now for about five days, and it has been very frustrating. I am happy with the content when it comes and would like to keep it. But it does not come till the afternoon, here in Cambridge UK.
Repeated discussions with Amazon Kindle Support has not resolved whether this is a problem with my account, or just when the Kindle comes. If anyone else gets this subscription in the UK, it would be helpful, to me as well as other potential buyers, if you would post a comment to this review saying what time of day it is delivered to your Kindle.
What I have been doing in the morning to substitute for the Kindle is to read that day's Times on the web, using the free program that the NY Times provides, Times Reader. Gives you the complete newspaper every day, and so far I've never gotten up early enough to try it before it was there.
I also tried writing the Times, but they told me that the Kindle version is purchased wholesale by Amazon and they do not provide support for it.
