Good content, layout hopeless for kids who struggle with maths
7 July 2018
There's a lot of explanation relative to a small amount of practice tests.
The tests are very long instead of being in small chunks. So you get about 8 pages of explanation then 2 dense pages of exercises.
The exercises are absolutely crammed in, so you need a separate exercise book to do the workings. This is messy and exactly the school maths experience I was hoping to get away from.
For kids like my son , who doesn't know how to show his workings and makes mistakes because he thinks everything is mental arithmetic, this book makes it worse not better.
If I could take the whole content of the book and tell the publisher how to rearrange the layout to help children who struggle with maths, it could be a very good book. But nobody can get to grips with a subject they find difficult when faced with pages so crammed that their eyes boggle.
