Information about ASIN, ISBN and UPC/EAN.
ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number. Every book is assigned a unique ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 when published.
ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number. Almost every product on our site has its own ASIN, a unique code we use to identify it. For books, the ASIN is the same as the ISBN number, but for all other products a new ASIN is created when the item is uploaded to our catalogue.
You'll find an item's ISBN or ASIN on the product detail page alongside further details relating to the item, which may include information such as size, number of pages (if it's a book) or number of discs (if it's a CD).
You can search for an ISBN or an ASIN in our catalogue. If you know the ASIN or ISBN of the item you're looking for, type it into the search box (which can be found near the top of most pages), hit the Go button and, if the item is listed in our catalogue, it'll appear in your search results.
UPC (Universal Product Code) and EAN (International Article Number) are unique codes used to identify a product. They consist of a bar code with a number underneath, usually 12 (UPC) or 13 (EAN) digits long.
