About Refunds

This page describes how we calculate refunds and outlines our policy on gift refunds and gift card refunds. Our refunds policy doesn't affect your statutory rights. Your refund and how your refund is issued may differ based on the condition of the item, how long you've had the item, and how the item was purchased.

    How Refunds Are Issued

    Extended Returns policy information: We've specially extended our returns period for the Christmas season. Items dispatched by Amazon.co.uk during the period from 1 November, 2019 to 31 December, 2019 inclusive may be returned at any time before midnight on 31 January, 2020. This return policy is valid for: all items sold and dispatched by Amazon.co.uk, items sold by third-party sellers and fulfilled by Amazon, as well as items offered with the Prime logo, which are sold and fulfilled by third-party sellers. Our returns policy will revert to the standard 30-day period for items dispatched after 31 December, 2019. Please note that this doesn't apply to mobile phones with contracts.     Most refunds are issued based on the payment method used at the time of purchase. In some cases, you may be offered an "Instant refund" option.

    If you want to use your refund without waiting for your return to process, you can select the instant refund option, if it's available. Instant refunds are either refunded to your credit card or issued as an Amazon.co.uk Gift Card balance, depending on the instant refund type you selected. You'll still need to return your items within 30 days.

    Note: Your refund request will be processed instantly. However, it may take 5-7 business days for it to display on your payment card statement. Amazon may determine that a refund can be issued without requiring a return.

    Gift returns: The type of refund or credit you receive depends on how the gift was purchased and how it was returned. For more information about gift refunds, go to Return a Gift.

    Late Refunds

    You can check the status of your refund in Your Account on the order summary page.

    If your refund doesn't appear in Your Account, and the processing time for your payment method has passed, contact us for further assistance.

    Note: After the carrier has received your item, it can take up to 2 weeks for us to receive and process your return.

    Will I be refunded any return postage costs?

    We'll refund your return costs on items sold and/or fulfilled by Amazon, up to our standard delivery option cost, if:

    • you received an incorrect item, or
    • you received a damaged item, or
    • you received a defective item, or
    • you received an item that does not match its description, or
    • you are returning shoes, clothing, jewellery or watches.

    In accordance with your statutory rights, if you received an item sold and/or fulfilled by Amazon that is either incorrect, damaged, defective or does not match its description, we will either offer you the option to return the product via a pre-paid carrier option, or, if that's not possible and the cost of returning the item exceeds our standard delivery option, please Contact Us to receive a refund for any reasonable additional postage costs you incurred. Note that we may require proof of postage in order to refund such additional postage costs.

    Partial Refunds or Reduced Refunds

    As set out in our Returns Policy, a returned item must be in the same condition in which you received it. This means that new items must be returned in the exact condition in which you received it from Amazon (including all accessories). If you've received a gift and wish to return it, the gift will be assessed and may be subject to a reduced refund as described below. As with all gift returns, reduced refund amounts will be applied to an Amazon gift card and allocated to your account. Please see the table below for more information on products which are impacted.

    Video Games and Video Game Consoles: Open video games or video game consoles that are not received in pristine condition. (eg. that have suffered user damage, are missing accessories or show obvious signs of use). Used or missing game codes. 50% of the item's price
    Media (excluding books): CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, or vinyl records that were opened (taken out of its plastic wrap), that are scratched or cracked. 50% of the item's price
    Unsealed Personal Care Appliances: Sealed personal care products that are not in the original condition. 50% of the item's price

    Note: Please be aware that once a returned item has been processed by our Returns Department, the item cannot be sent back to you.
