Connect Audio Sources to Your Echo Device (Audio In)

Use a 3.5mm audio cable to play audio from an external audio source on your compatible Echo device.

Compatible Devices

  • Echo Plus (2nd Generation)

To play audio from an external source with aux out capabilities (such as a mobile phone or laptop) on your Echo device, first configure your aux settings in the Alexa app:

  1. Select the Devices icon "".
  2. Select your device, and then select AUX Audio.
  3. Select Line In.

To connect your Echo device to an external audio source with a 3.5mm audio cable:

  1. Turn on your audio source.
  2. Check that the aux audio setting in the Alexa app is configured for Line In.
  3. Plug one end of an audio cable into your Echo device and the other end into your audio source.

    Note: For best results, place the devices three ft (one m) apart.

Audio from your connected source now streams through your Echo device.

Tip: If you're already playing music from the cloud and your audio cable is connected, you can say, "Switch to audio cable," to enable audio in.
