Turn On Subtitles

You can turn on subtitles during video playback to display the audio for movies and TV shows as text on-screen.

Movies and TV shows with subtitles available include a Subtitles icon in the video details.

To filter the results on the page to only show videos with Subtitles available:

  1. Open Prime Video.
  2. Look for the Search box at the top of the page, and then click the Search Search Icon 
				icon to switch to search results view.
  3. Scroll down to find the Subtitles browse filter in the left panel, and select a language.

This filters the results on the page to only show videos with subtitles available.

Change Your Language Preferences for Video Playback

You can set a default language for subtitles and audio dubbing from the video player:

  1. Select the Subtitles and Audio ("speech bubble" icon) in the playback controls.
  2. Select your preferred subtitle language and audio language from the drop-down menu.

Change Your Language Preferences on TVs:

  1. Before playback, with the movie or TV show selected, select Subtitles or Audio Languages from the top menu.
  2. Select your preferred language from the list of available options.

Your language selection will be used automatically whenever you play a future video on this device if the selected language is available

Note: Subtitles and audio will only play with your preferred language if it is available for the movie or TV show you're watching.

Turn Subtitles On or Off

To turn subtitles on or off:

  1. Start playback for a movie or TV show with subtitles available.
  2. Select the Subtitles

Customize Text Display

To customize the text display for subtitles:

  1. Go to Prime Video Settings - Subtitles.
  2. Use the Edit button to configure your presets. You can change the text color, style, size, and more.

Trouble with Subtitles?

If you’re having trouble with subtitles, here are some solutions that may help:

Check device compatibility - Go to Prime Video Devices & Features to make sure subtitles are supported on your playback device. Also check the video details for the movie or TV show you're watching to make sure subtitles are available.

Restart your device - Restart your device by turning it off completely and then back on again
