Sign Up for Alexa Calling and Messaging

Learn how to sign up for Alexa Calling and Messaging.

To sign up for Alexa Calling and Messaging you need:

  • An Amazon account
  • A mobile phone number
  • The Alexa app (installed on a compatible iOS or Android phone. Select Android, iOS, and Fire tablets are also compatible)

Note: Even though you need to enter your mobile phone number as part of signup, Alexa Calling and Messaging is separate from your mobile phone service. It doesn't use your plan (talk minutes, etc.) during calls or for sending texts, and doesn't show up on your mobile phone bill. However, if your phone is connected to the Internet via your mobile network, the Alexa app will use data--just like any other streaming app or service you have installed.

Compatible iOS and Android Operating Systems

Not all devices support signup for Alexa Calling and Messaging.

  • For iOS devices, you need iOS 9.0 or higher.
  • For Android devices, you need Android OS 5.0 or higher.
  • For Fire tablets, you need FireOS 5.6.0.1 or higher.

To sign up:

  1. Open the Alexa app (on your compatible device)
  2. Open the Conversations "" tab from the bottom menu.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter and verify your mobile phone information.

Note: You may be prompted to verify your phone number via text message (SMS). If you don't receive this message, you can try again by selecting the Resend Code option (below Continue) on your screen.
