Play Music on Multiple Echo Devices

Video: Multi-Room Music

You can use Multi-Room Music to play music across multiple Amazon Alexa Devices devices at the same time. Just register two or more Amazon Alexa Devices devices to one account, set them up on the same wi-fi network, set them up for Multi-Room Music in the Alexa app, and say, for example, ”Play music downstairs”, where downstairs is a group you created.

To synchronize Amazon Alexa Devices from the Alexa app:

  1. Select Smart Home from the menu
  2. Select the Groups category
  3. Select Create Groups to create a group
  4. Tap on Multi-Room Music Group
  5. Select a pre-set group name from the list, or specify a custom group name by tapping “Create Custom” and entering a name of your choice
  6. Tap Next The Alexa app will confirm that it has created your group

Once enabled say “Play [music selection] [group name]” to play your music on the selected devices.

Currently, Multi-Room Music works with Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo Dot

However, Multi-Room Music does not support:

  • 3rd party Alexa devices
  • Non-music content such as Flash Briefings or books
  • Any Bluetooth connections whilst streaming, such as to external speakers Wired connections to external speakers (i.e. from the Amazon Echo Dot) will not be affected.
  • Fast-forward and Rewind re not supported during group playback
  • If you are using Amazon Music Unlimited, please be aware that if you are streaming on any other device, you'll not be able to stream via Alexa at the same time unless you have a Family Plan subscription. Prime Music is also limited to one stream (to a device or a Multi-Room Music group) at a time.
