Lavender Road is the first book written by Helen Carey that I have read. Straight away I could identify with the characters as they are so real. Having lived at the time I was impressed with the attention to detail. Obviously a lot of research went into the writing of this book, something that sadly isn't the case in many other books written about the World War II era. The plot is believable with lots of twists and turns and the reader soon becomes embroiled in each of the character's separate lives and how they interact with the other characters. All in all a very absorbing read and I look forward very much to reading more books in the series to see how things develop in Lavender Road as the war progresses.
