The front cover states this is the story of one child's fight to survive in the brutal British care system. It was certainly that and such a good read. What saddens me is that when people in later years get to read their file they find that things have happened to them that shouldn't have. In Nigel's case, everyone was saying he shouldn't be where he was, so you have to ask yourself why was he still there. To think that your mother was the one who asks social services to take you away. Some of the various schools that Nigel attended, if you google them you'll find out what they were like.
As Nigel was a loner, it was good to read the last page 'about the author' and find out that he had a degree in classical piano performance. There is also a website to find out more about Nigel.
