1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING! un-wanted ADVERTISING across your screen, 9 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
WARNING! if you install this not only will you will get un-wanted ADVERTISING across your screen, if you install this you will also lose any earlier - and better - versions of this software! Even Microsoft support at it's own office dot com website warns: "If you do not want advertisements to display, you should not use Office Starter". Installing this piece of trash lost me a previous version of WORD that was much easier to use, in which I enjoyed a full screen. Regret, regret, regret. The WORST software purchase I ever made (21 years PC user)

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest with a capital H and enjoyable as a sexy Satin Party loop by Lasse Braun, 2 Sept. 2017

This review is from: Art Sex Music (Paperback)
Frankly wonderful. I couldn't put it down - went to bed early (the right place for a tome like this) night after night to gorge myself on it. An insightful peak into the inner circles of Coum and TG and their offshoots; and a look between sexy strata of Lasse Braun hardcore films to softcore spreads in the world of mid-1970s porn and glamour photography. There is a treasure trove of info on early Coil (e.g. the John Harwood design era - Gold i.t.Metal), and the early underground scene on Kings Road, SW3; a bucketful of bile on certain individuals we shall not mention here... a mirror to the art clubs and stripper pubs of the time and endless gems and precious tales from the memory of the writer, My respect for this woman as a pensmith is as high as it is for the performer that she is. This woman did more to break down barriers in 10 years than other creative performers do in a lifetime; than most people can ever dream of doing. Honest with a capital H and enjoyable as a sexy Satin Party loop (that's one of her films, directed by legendary Lasse Braun - well worth finding, though be careful there are butchered versions out there). Cosey Fanni Tutti takes me back to my childhood, narrates my teen years and paints my younger adult life; as, almost every page I feel I know someone (I do know some of them) or I know the scene she is revealing and I feel no one has ever shown it better. RIP Peter and J. Thanks Cosey

3.0 out of 5 stars For contrast do see the other version of this film, the one made in Germany (English audio) ..., 2 Sept. 2017
This review is from: Alone in Berlin [DVD] (DVD)
See the other version, made in Germany (English audio) for contrast. You can find it on Amazon. It's called, "Hans Fallada: Jeder stirbt fr sich" and has English dubbed audio (I know, not as good as subtitles but as the Emma Thompson film has Irish and English accents all over it, it has little to shout about. Very little. Plush, pretty, attractive but thin on Fallada. The book is , of course, 100 times better, yet if you want a film, try the German film mentioned above. It's a little close to what I wanted. Less Hollywood, more European cinema.

4.0 out of 5 stars nothing hotter than the cover photo is found inside yet the book is amply illustrated ..., 2 Sept. 2017

This review is from: Orgies (Hardcover)
Terri Hall in Damiano's 1975 'The Story of Joanna' is the porno-chic film still you see on the cover. It may mislead buyers to expect raunchier stuff inside. There is nothing hotter than the cover inside yet the book is amply illustrated and decorated with tame yet suggestive images of moderntimes orgies; and explicit illustrations of yore. It's a beautiful book and bedtime reading will insert a smile in to your dreams of forbidden fruit.

4.0 out of 5 stars no subtitles, alas, yet if you can stand dubbing you'll get something out of this bilingual disc, 2 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
"A new line, we're making things for the military now." 'What, ammunition boxes?'. "No, we're making coffins". Fallada anti-war frissons aside - and there is plenty of anti-war agitation in this fine film - for me films must always be in their original language, with subtitles. Alas, there are no subtitles but there is a dubbed English language audio track. This would be a superb dvd with subtitles but if you can stand the dubbing - I know, it's hard - you'll get something out of this bilingual (German/English) disc of the great man's top book. Do not expect the book though - it's not. Treat this as a quality made-for-TV film and if you can get over the bearded SSGestapo chappie - he'd look better cast as a socialist rebel than a Nazi officer of high rank - you will enjoy excellent performances by some of Germany's finest theatrical performers. The lead couple are as sublime as the Eidelweiss Pirate subversives are cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Were there any justice in the world this should be a film by now, 11 Jun. 2017
This review is from: The Justice Tapes (Kindle Edition)
Law students ought to sleep with this book! An œuvre that film script writers could have immolated their grandmas for. Were there any justice in the world this should be a film by now. As the author wryly acknowledges, the law is more interested in looking after itself, after the law, than in justice. Don't think this is a bitter or overly serious essay on law. It's not. It is actually brimming over with laughs. I was in stitches of giggles walking the darkly comic corridors constructed by this writer. In terms of humour Woody Allen pops out every now and then. Orgazmatrons no, but Manhattan yes. Yes indeed, if you can have a Samson and Delilah narrative in The Big Apple, well this cuts more than locks. It shears to the chase with sharpened Tarot trumps XI and XX shaving short back & sides around a host of stars, law firm partners, their clients, jerks and losers too. As for the non-'learned' it trims a few tales from the street also, successfully spinning like a top around a balance point held by a blindfolded seer. On his route to the top of the pile a worldly lawyer spills the beans from a lifetime of intrigue and tales never to be told - told here - and he has more than a gross of filmic anecdotes to boot. He uses all 144 of them to hasten our voyage through his shadow tracks. "I received my first invitation to [Morris Cohen's] office... I wished I'd brought a candle...the thought I'd somehow stumbled into Dracula's study was reinforced when I peeped behind the drapes and saw nothing but plaster". That's the senior partner! Better still, guess what percentage of law student job applicants pretend to be someone they're not, just to please a doting senior partner interviewer? "Almost half job prospectors claimed to be... and 15% of them claimed to be top Bridge players!" This book is dynamite as well as damning (and damningly funny). Change a few names and you are talking big time fame & fortune, stars of our world and of yesteryear, movers and shakers. None know they've been sent up in smoke in this justly temperate humidor. Fill in a few blanks and you might start recognizing people - or think you do. Wholly recommended. Read twice and considering a third time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine actors trapped within a whirlpool of downcast eyes, 1 April 2016

It wants to be bigger than it is, and it is darned long but if you have a few evenings to fill and you don't mind being depressed, go for it! Get the bunting out and await the V2s. Fine actors trapped within a whirlpool of downcast eyes, death, dying and ills. That said... no, I cannot find the positives I wanted except to say Kim Cattrall steals the show - and if you get that far, she is worth it even unto death. There are many other better looking back from the edge of the grave films and I'd almost rather watch any of them. Three stars for the actors. Do not watch if you are rec ently deceased or on the verge of topping yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kids' viking spirit! Uncomfortable laughter for some, yet for others its all eyes wide open hilarity, 1 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The kids are cool! Death is always tricky one to laugh at but this is diverting - and my mother had just died when I watched it, so I was not in the best mood for a comedy but appreciated it nonetheless. Hilarious at times, shocking at others, overall a winner, and the scenes on the beach will remain with you ... swallows and amazons forever!

5.0 out of 5 stars she was driven to the kitchen in search of culinary satisfaction due to this fine fare, 1 April 2016

Hilarious! Levity and lentils, lovers united versus suave Mirren-au-vin, a villainous Cordon Bleu restaurant owner, who halts at nothing to stop the new kids on the block. A rural ride from beautiful French countryside to chic Paris, chefs and foody-fun through and through, a rich desert for lovers of cuisine. A story without blood, with no gore, nor silly special effects, just laughs and an all-happy in the end ending. A certain person with whom I was enjoying this, a lady who comes from Lyon (THE cuisine capital of France) was driven to the kitchen in search of culinary satisfaction due to the effect the filmic fine fare had on her! She was impressed. That takes something for a Lyonnaise! Expect to see scrumptious goodies so eat well beforehand to avoid the need to interrupt the movie for a kitchen trip
