A brilliant Exposé . What makes this such a fascinating and shocking book, is just how ingrained in British culture this system is. It takes a special kind of writer to reveal, in clear and lucid prose, the dark truth underlying so much myth-making.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 28 April 2013
Just when you thought you'd read everything about the Khmer Rouge - and man's inhumanity to man - there comes along an eloquent and deeply thought-provoking book by celebrated film-maker Rithy Panh. So much story telling is dominated by western academics and journalists (myself included), it is really refreshing to read a Cambodian account that is beautifully written, personal and deeply reflective. An amazing book and, by far, the best to have been written about the Khmer Rouge.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Book, 22 Nov. 2012
This review is from: The Trouser People (Paperback)
`The Trouser People' is one of the best books written about Burma. The writing is taut and brilliantly crafted, enlivened with wonderful descriptions of people and places. Marshall's enthusiasm for all things Burmese is infectious as well as informative.

I've travelled though much of Burma over the past 20 years. Marshall's book is not just a great introduction to a fascinating country, it is a perceptive look at one of the world's oldest military dictatorships and helps place Burma's reforms in context.
