2.0 out of 5 stars The rise and fall of Neal Stephenson?, 23 Aug. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Long-term Stephenson fan, I didn't like Seveneves but enjoyed pretty much everything before that. This book makes that look like a classic. The plot meanders around, so that they've just about established the situation by about half way, though with a page count that for other writers would be a full length book. Then there is a bit of stuff about military administration and then a rounding out to a non-ending that manages to feel rushed despite how long it takes to get there. One of the big problems with Seveneves was the weak characterisation and this doesn't really develop that much better here. Where Seveneves had at least interesting ideas this doesn't really have much of anything. Save your money and go and re-read Anathem.

1.0 out of 5 stars Take the money and run, 23 Aug. 2017
Bought this as part of the Explorer's pack last year. The code for redeeming it doesn't work so no download. Amazon thinks that means I should contact the game developer. Will be avoiding this kind of purchase in future.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, 16 April 2016
My initial thoughts were that these are comfortable and functional. Unfortunately, they are far from being durable as claimed. I've got about 4 hours of use out of them, at most, and one fingertip has split right across and another is showing signs that it will not be far behind The seam at wrist of the right hand glove has also become thready all the way around the wrist. To give you an idea of how little demand has been placed on them, the palms are barely dirty.Basically the quality of these is very poor. Avoid.

2.0 out of 5 stars American robot soldiers have never been so dull., 7 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Tin Men (Kindle Edition)
The world has gone to hell and only America can save it, by inventing mind controlled robot soldiers, shooting foreigners and taking over their countries. Some very thinly characterised soldiers get picked off one by one while trying to save the president from baddies who tend to have more morally justified positions but aren't American. Entirely predictable, very dull.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thin characters in out of this world locations, 23 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Seveneves (Hardcover)
I like Stephenson, I really enjoyed Anathem and I find him very readable. He remains readable here but this whole book smacks of him investigating the science of what humanity might need to do to survive a global apocalypse and then roughing out some characters to populate the world. The characters remain dreadfully thin, and only get thinner in the later part of the book, literally to the point of having two reported traits each. Some interesting ideas spelled out but on the whole the book is very weak and a disappointment.

We had these fitted over the winter. A pair of seagulls nested on top of them and have produced three chicks.

This got panned by the critics, and they were right to do so. A banal script, ropey visuals, especially the title character's suit and it just seems to go on and on with no surprises and nothing of interest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rover good, Pattinson bad., 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Rover [DVD] [2014] (DVD)
This starts pretty well, Guy Pearce is on good form, their is a general set up of a post-economic collapse Australia (not unlike the first Mad Max film). Life is brutal, etc but its well acted and scripted. Then Robert Pattinson rocks up. From here on the film reeks of having got the OK because Pattinson is attached and he sucks the life out of it, I assume he is trying to build credibility by working with a hot and upcoming director. Despite the setting he is an American yokel, I assume because he could not do a generic Australian accent. Essentially he plays the character as if he is Cletus from the Simpsons. Worst bit is a campfire scene which doesn't really move the plot along but smells of Pattinson trying to be actorly. This would likely have been a four star film but this character just shoots holes in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Large, well designed calendar with a green message, 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A large wall calendar with a message that is stronger for being emphasised by great design. The message is a green one, pro-renewables, critical of fossil fuel, with the dates rolled into the design rather than as a box stuck in one corner. Not great for keeping all your info by a date but something that looks good on the wall. Sturdy and a great way to get away from kitten calendars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother, 14 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The weakest Dredd stories for a long time. Swierczynski has no feel for the character or his world and isn't helped by some weak art. His stories take the elements of classic Dredd but do nothing new or interesting with them. A wasted opportunity.

The kindle version has been poorly converted. The panels are often only partially visible and the movement from one to the next stutters.
