5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional, 26 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: One And All [Mint Pack] (Audio CD)
Being moist of eye at the sleeve notes the first listen to this was an emotional rollercoaster. Fabulous as always there are some rollicking shanties and some songs which sound more like contemporary folk but still brilliant. The stand out moment has to be The Last Leviathan-I saw them perform this at the Platt in Port Isaac a few years ago and was hoping it would be on this cd. It was emotional enough listening to it then with the sun sinking into the sea but the added poignency of Trevor's vocal treads close to being an unbearable listening experience at first. Keep on singing chaps, God knows we need you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Give him a break, 8 Oct. 2012
It seems to be have a go at Jeff day today. Anyone who watched the excellent documentary on BBC4 will know why he has re-recorded some ELO classics. He felt that the original tracks were dull sounding and that he was sick of strings all over everything. I can't comment on the horrible digital sound as I bought the vinyl version which sounds fine to me. Sure it is likely that they won't sound 'as good' as the originals-these are so ingrined into our conciousness that every nouance is known but give these a chance-For my money the new version of 10538 Overture knocks spots off the original. Don't play them back to back with the originals but enjoy them for what they are; great versions of great songs.
Can't wait for the 'new' album proper-also would be good if they released the acoustic stuff with Richard Tandy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are you serious, 8 Oct. 2012
This review is from: Long Wave (Audio CD)
I very seldom feel compeled to write reviews but a couple of reviews on here have left me speechless! Jeff Lynne not very good at melodies? oh come on; Mr Blue Sky, Livin' Thing etc etc etc It's only 27 minutes long so must be a rip off? Please Please Me, A Hard Day's Night, Pet Sounds rip offs too then? No, I'm not saying this is as good as those but it is about what is in those 27 minutes. Jeff has created a fine record of his versions of his personal favourites, immaculately played, sung and produced. if you like ELO you'll love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was so wrong, 1 July 2011
As a Queen fan from 1974 onwards I was one of the many who decried this album on release in 1982; even booing Staying Power live in Leeds!!!
Over the years I have dutifully bought the cd issues for collection purposes only and rarely played them. About a year ago something made me play it and, gulp, I loved it. This new remaster is as fab as the others and I think, so far (News of the world and The Game not yet listened to) it is the best of the bunch sound wise. The bonus tracks are good, even the live tracks are previously unreleased. Action This Day on the album is still the worst track Queen had released up to this point (The Party and Delilah were still to come) but even this is elevated by the remaster. If you're a died in the wool Hot Space hater, give it another chance and if you don't know the album then you're in for a treat.
Oh by the way, I must take isuue with the first reviewer-Jazz, a weak album?? It's one of the best; one man's meat....

4.0 out of 5 stars That was a shock, 10 Mar. 2011
Having heard the single 'The Roller' I really didn't think that this would work. But, when it finally dawned on me that, on that track, Liam sounded like Julian, rather than John, Lennon, it started to grow on me. I was given a freebie Beady Eye cd that had come with a Sunday paper and put it on in the car as I had nothing else to hand-on the strength of that I went and bought the album.
This is not a masterpiece but it is the best thing Gallagher jnr has been involved in for many a year. It wears its influences large upon its sleeve but still manages to sound original; however, the real joy of this album, which doesn't appear to have been picked up on, is Liam's voice. Stripped of the silly inflections and vowel mangling predominant throughout Oasis' career, except on 1 track, I have to say Liam Gallagher has a fantastic rock voice, worth the price of admission alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Job well done, 4 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Bought this and GH2 yesterday and am absolutely blown away by the remastering job. Bob Ludwig has 'done a Beatles' and subtly brought out clarity and opened up the soundscape and not turned everything up to 10 (thank all that is good and mighty). Really looking forward to the remastered versions of the albums-UNiversal do a good job with their deluxe editions so hopefully a treat of bonus tracks etc. Hope they don't tag them on to the original album but do them as a second disc. Particularly crossing fingers that the BBC Christmas 1977 interview to accompany News of the World can be sourced and included; oh and that 'Live Killers' is included in the release schedule.
Buy it, even if like me you have done so a number of times before, you won't regret it.
