1.0 out of 5 stars Sound problem with Spanish/English audio version, 17 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a review for the Spanish/English audio DVD of the film, not the film itself. The good news is the picture is not bad and you can watch the English audio without the Spanish subtitles, but that's the only good news. Unfortunately the English version is barely audible - The Spanish audio is of a normal sound level but when you play the English version there is no sound until you turn the volume up as much as possible and even then you have to strain to hear the dialogue (and just to state I'm a young man with excellent hearing). I had my original copy replaced but the sound was the same, so the problem lies with this DVD release. Avoid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Review of the DVD not the film, 8 May 2014
This is a review of this particular release of The Pearl of Death by Cornerstone Media. The quality of this DVD is diabolical, it literally looks like it was videotaped off the television from years ago - it even has horizontal lines on a couple of occasions. Very, very poor, avoid unless you are desperate to see it (although there is an other version available from Optimum - as a double bill with The Spider Woman).

1.0 out of 5 stars Another problem to look out for, 6 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is not a review of the excellent series but of the shoddy behaviour of the company releasing it on DVD.

The good news is that Amazon are now selling the corrected version of this box set, the bad news is Optimum are putting used discs into new stock. The set I bought had one disc heavily scratched and with finger prints all over it. This has been reported on various forums and is most likely due to them having to take individual discs out of sets to send out for replacements. Presumably they then put in as many used discs as they have available to save money on new pressings. Pretty disgraceful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great film, poor transfer, 24 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Private's Progress [DVD] (DVD)
Private's Progress is one of the great comedies of British cinema, with a top notch cast, both above and below the title, all at the top of their game. Unfortunately Optimum, who have released this edition are not the best company when it comes to quality control and this is a rather poor transfer. The picture quality isn't great and there are two noticeable line blips at the beginning of the film. But the worst fault is a warped soundtrack that causes the music to constantly go in and out of tune. A real shame.

The film is worth five stars and the transfer is worth one, so I've split the difference and given it three stars.
