5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the master at work, 28 Mar. 2014

Ansel Adams' awe inspiring photographs have been the major inspiration & influence informing my minor attempts at capturing nature in all it's glory. He is the master, I'm just an eager student but I can see the influences in my small scale efforts - he did vast American mountain ranges, I do Welsh hills, he did lakes & rivers, I do ponds & streams, but I can see for certain echoes of his influence in my photographs. That belief has been enhanced by the purchase of this excellent compilation of his wonderous images. I have many larger prints of his work on the walls of my house but while this book doesn't provide the same visual impact the compact nature of this book gives me opportunity to study in detail the composition of the images in order to hopefully further develop my skills. To have so many iconic images in one volume is the ideal companion for anyone who appreciates the true genius of Ansel Adams & an essential purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars darling is this love...?, 13 Feb. 2009
This review is from: The Seldom Seen Kid (Audio CD)
As a long time admirer of the band all i can ask is where have you been until now? Suddenly Elbow are flavour of the year, songs from this album seemingly provide the soundtrack to every other trailer for tv programmes on every channel! Still, better late than never i suppose. If this is going to be your first Elbow recording then you've made a great choice but please dont ignore the others, all 3 are also worthy of purchase and enjoyment, but what we have here is a display of one the greatest lyrical and vocal talents of this century from Mr Guy Garvey. Whilst the music supplies the appropriate backing it's the voice and the words they sing that provide the lead instrument. Please dont just put this music on in the background, take time to sit down in a quiet room, put headphones on and learn the words to an album full of memorable lyrics. Every song has merit but in my opinion, for me personally, the opening track, Starlings, is simply one of the greatest love songs ever written. As i say, just listen to the words. And that's just for starters, there are many more lyrical delights scattered across this amazing record, so buy, listen, admire, enjoy..!!
