Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
Price: £5.49

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly inspiring, thought provoking and, at times, scary..., 9 Aug. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Sapiens provides a novel look at the development of 'mankind' over the course of the last 70 or so millennia that combines fantasy and fact in a way that just feels... right.

Whilst not agreeing with or blindly accepting each assertion of the author, it certainly provides the proverbial 'food for thought' and opens up some pretty powerful internal dialogue that has us thinking more deeply about who we are, where we came from and where we're going to as a species.

Can't recommend this enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best Entry Level Book About Estrogen Imbalance You'll Ever Find, 15 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Are there better books about estrogen dominance?

Probably, though they're all highly technical and quite hard work to get through.

What I like about Lam's work is that the educational aspect of his endocrinology teaching is simple to understand yet not losing any of its technical or scientific kudos as a result.

A great resource for all fitpros and personal trainers and those seeking entry level knowledge to endocrinology

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Spin On An Old Classic!, 15 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
While the similarities between Bradfords Young Samurai (English son of a Pilot who struggles against the Jesuits and medieval Japanese bigotry to become first a fully fledged Samurai then later a Ninja) And James Cavell's 'Shogun' are striking (even some of the sub plot and stories are identical), the new spin on the story is a great one that works really well and in no way undermines the original.

I've loved all 7 books so far and my 11 year old son is truly loving (and learning from) the great story lines.

Can't recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Understanding The Warrior Mindset, 11 July 2012
This review is from: The Warrior Ethos (Paperback)
I've been moving on from the warrior mindset for some time now after reflecting that the only purpose for a warrior is to find war and battles and conflict. After all, it's what they train for, right?

But this book intrigued me as I know that Pressfield has a fond romanticism around all things military (as do I as a former soldier myself) yet I also know that he's a logical, no-BS thinker and writer who doesn't dress things up, preferring to let the actual events he writes about be seen in their 'down and dirty' reality.

I liked this book as he hit on elements of the warrior mind, the tribal connection, the difference between a gang and a unit of warriors, the hardcore codes of ethics, the care of community, attraction to hardship and more.

I can't recommend this enough for those trying to understand the warrior mind and what makes them as they are... a brilliant, if somewhat short, read.

Truth, joy and love

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bulgarian Bags at an EXCELLENT Price!, 11 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As a pretty well known London-based personal trainer I'm always looking for good quality kit that will help my clients to accomplish their fitness and fatloss goals and have been looking at the bulgarian bags for a while but balked at the prices I'd seen as they seemed VERY overpriced for what they were.

These particular bags meet all the requirements of regular usage being hardwearing, comfortable, well designed and, best of all, less tha a quarter of the price of the nearest competitors bags.

You don't need to spend nearly £300 on a bag. These do perfectly well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect For The Serial Procrastinator, 11 July 2012

If you've been umming and aahing about starting or finishing your project, your work of art then Pressfield's War of Art is a PERFECT boot to butt to get you actually taking action and seeing things through.

More than an exhortation to 'just do it', War of Art is a great tool to motivate and inspire action whenever the excuses start to build up and productivity slows.

I can't recommend this enough.

The New Revelations
The New Revelations
by Neale Donald Walsch
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifechanging!, 11 July 2012

This review is from: The New Revelations (Hardcover)
If you're looking for a 'story' to help you gain clarity about who you are and who you aspire to be in life then this is it!

Neale Donald Walsch's CWG series is an amazing journey into exploring our beliefs about life, the universe and everything and in this beautifully written (and spoken) conversation with God serves to rip away the wool that's been covering the lives of so many for so long.

People who are on a spiritual journey and who are not overly bound to one religion or another will LOVE the book whilst those who are religious yet open to concepts outside of their religious doctrine will leave with a stronger sense of what's working and what's not in organised religion.

The CWG has drawn a lot of fire from fundamentalists from all elements of the religious communities due to what appears to be irreverence to God, yet my experience is that the story told by Walsch is the most complete, honest and inspirational look at the concept of God that He/She/It plays in our lives.

A spiritual feast that will enrich the soul with great commentary by those playing the role of God in the dialogue.

I can't recommend this enough!

The Law of Success , Volume II & III: A Definite Chief Aim & Self Confidence: 2-3
The Law of Success , Volume II & III: A Definite Chief Aim & Self Confidence: 2-3
by Napoleon Hill
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Laws Of Success, 19 Sept. 2006
Napoleon Hill is widely regarded as the grandaddy of success literature...and rightly so!

His popular book 'Think and Grow Rich' has been used by every major self-help and success author for almost 70 years and its message and value are still amazingly relevant today.

What few people realise is that Think and Grow Rich was merely a greatly edited down version of his true work 'The Laws of Success'.

This greater work is the most amazing study of human success philosophy that has ever been created with each chapter or law focusing upon areas that individually are powerful indeed, yet synergistically create an outright blueprint for success that simply cannot fail.

In this volume Hill overs the development of a chief definite aim and outlines the processes by which someone can discover and develop their ultimate purpose in life. The lesson here is probably THE most important of all the laws and simply must be read!

In the chapter on self-confidence, Hill teaches us how to develop a belief system that will support us as we endeavour to live a life of purpose. The rationale is that whilst we may feel that we have purpose, a lack of belief and confidence in our ability to attain it will always trip us up. This chapter will give you the tools to actually develop that stunning belief!

I would highly recommend this book (and the rest of the series) to anyone who really wants to get ahead in any aspect of their lives.

Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is The True 'Secret' Of Success!, 26 Jun. 2006
The idea that we become what we think about most of the time is hardly new. This philosophy has been passed down through prophets, holy men, sages and philosophers for millenia. Yet Napoleon Hills classic masterpiece 'Think and Grow Rich' takes the concept to a new level by not only reminding us of the fact but telling us HOW to think correctly!

And the 'rich' he is telling us to grow into is not only money. I truly believe that if you follow the principles laid down in this book, you will grow richness in every area of your life and that you will meet with success that you would never believe possible.

Read this book then actually DO what it tells you for 30 days...it'll change your life!
