4.0 out of 5 stars Sobering and necessary, 29 April 2017
This review is from: Soldier Spy (Paperback)
A graphic insight to what is required to ensure some sense of security in the UK. We are always ignorant and take such things for granted. This book is a requirement to make people realize what is involved, every day, from a lot of hard working individuals. There have been some remarks about the book in a negative sense, but to my mind, this book is a essential requirement to make people realize what evil permeates UK society and the people who have to deal with this to keep us safe. I sincerely hope Tom Marcus finds something in his life, as he is without a doubt a seriously talented and impressive individual.

4.0 out of 5 stars Patience and extreme care required., 29 Oct. 2016
The detail in this model is excellent, with very good mould quality, actually, far superior to Revell, etc. It is extremely difficult, I would recommend a table-top magnifying glass and some good quality tweezers. The only irritating feature is the two long, thin plasma wave antenna, which are extremely difficult and subsequently, I have a 'repaired antenna'. It would have been better if they were supplied as actual metal components. All in all, it looks great once finished, but as recommend previously, it's definitely for more experienced model builders and take a lot of patience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Overview on Tyrannosaurs, 18 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A comprehensive, accurate and detailed overview of the Tyrannosaurs. Relatively easy to read. I especially liked the author's approach of arriving at conclusions with regard to what particular evidence there is available, i.e. the scientific approach instead of waltzing away on fantasy hypotheses, as seen in other literature on dinosaurs. My only criticism is with reference to the skeletal anatomy of Tyrannosaurs - these areas could have been better illustrated with a few pictures for those less knowledgable in vertebrate anatomy (one day there will be an Idiot's Guide to Vertebrate Anatomy, oh please, give me a good picture!). Also, there were several paragraphs with reference to particular fossils indicating Tyrannosaur behaviour, i.e. tooth marks on the skull indicating intra-specific conflict, scrape/bit marks on a hadrosaur femur indicating preferential feeding practice, etc. but sadly, there were no illustrations available. Overall though, a good read, recommend it to anyone with an interest in vertebrate paleontology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably one of the best books on geology I have ever seen., 15 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is without a doubt one of the best textbooks on geology I have ever seen. Primarily aimed at the undergraduate level, the text is so straightforward to read and the diagrams and illustrations are excellent - one good picture says a thousand words. If you are studying geology or have a passive interest in geology, or merely want to remind yourself, this book is a must.

Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read, 22 April 2016
This review is from: The Blade Artist (Paperback)
One of the best of Irvine's books. Very addictive and a well thought out story, with each character coming out in realistic detail. Not for the squeamish.......

The Abyss of Time: A Study in Geological Time and Earth History
The Abyss of Time: A Study in Geological Time and Earth History
by Paul Lyle
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £22.49

4.0 out of 5 stars Necessary Education, 22 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A concise summary with regard to determining the age of the Earth and it's implications. As the author states, a certain proportion of people are ignorant of this fact or refuse to accept it. In the day of high consumerism, dwindling resources, exponential population growth and climate change, this is indeed extremely troubling. This book goes a certain distance to try to alleviate this fact. If you have an interest in the Earth Sciences, you will enjoy this book.

In the Eye of the Storm: Commanding the Desert Rats in the Gulf War
by Patrick Cordingley DSO
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars We liked him - he had overwhelming confidence, 17 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was a tank driver with D Sqn, Scots DG. I recall several occasions when Cordingley came to address us. We liked him - he had overwhelming confidence, clarity of thought and a great sense of humor, to which he was greatly appreciated by the men. This book brought back various memories and clarified in distinct details the actual operations themselves.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was a tank driver with the Scots DG during ..., 29 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was a tank driver with the Scots DG during that campaign, now seems so long ago. This book brought back a lot of memories and also gave some further clarification; obviously, in the hull of a Challenger 'pulling sticks' the 'bigger picture' was somebody else's concern! Disappointing to see little materials from the Scots DG, i.e. comments from the commanding officers of the QRIH and the Staffordshire Regiment, etc. are often given over the pages, with absolutely nothing from the Scots DG. I guess it's not possible to get around everybody (?!) An accountable read, which does give an accurate overview of the entire campaign.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun but a bit expensive...., 28 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Okay, to summarise:

1. Yes, it's very expensive.
2. But hey, my little boy loves it, he's over the moon.
3. I see that a lot of people are criticizing the rocket launch mechanisms - I can imagine that it could be broken over time - with our kid, so far, so good...but he has been told to take it easy....supeglue is necessary with the coconut trees after a day or two, no big deal.
4. I took 1.5 hours to build it - and that's with the youtube guide (and coffee breaks). Top tip of the week - DO NOT leave this in the box for christmas morning, or else face some stress when still assembling the thing when the in laws arrive at the front door and your wife is hanging a nervous breakdown in the kitchen. As I said, you need peace and quiet on your own to assemble this thing (and avoid putting the stickers on upside down).
5. The spaceships that go with the island are great, but as others have written, the quality could be better, However, I find that with all the toys manufactured today.

Overall, a great toy, although in my opinion a bit pricey. (Oh, before I forget, F.A.B.)
