5.0 out of 5 stars Mega good!, 22 Aug. 2011
Firstly, I don't care for Andrew Marr, why they are HIS megacities, I don't know. But the show itself is extremely
insightful and demonstrates/explains migration patterns in the world today.

Featuring five very different cities on different continents, the show attempts to provide pros and cons for living in all of these cities, but I get the feeling that Marr had a soft spot for Mexico City, despite its notoriety for being one of the world's crime capitals. Lots of information crammed in to 3 hour-long episodes and a good amount of attention placed on the people that inhabit these megacities rather than being just a purely factual documentary.

A shame that New York was not featured, but its still five stars nonetheless. I look forward to the relic of Andrew Marr presenting 'Megacities Revisited' in 50 years time...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bizarrely Brilliant, 22 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Mr Pye [DVD] (DVD)
Adapted from the Mervin Peake novel, this channel four series from the 1980s is absolutely bonkers. I've not
actually read the book, but heard about the show through word of mouth at university through some friends who
had studied the book and subsequently watched the series.

Its quite hard to sum up, but its stars the amazing Derek Jacobi as Mr Pye - an angelic character who arrives on the Island of Sark to do good work. A bizarre sequence of events culminates, almost dream like, make this show complete void of any realism aside from the issue of morality that, personally, i think the story explores.

I feel this is definitely a cult status show and one to own for anybody who is a fan of the purely weird!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ancient Globetrotting, 22 Aug. 2011
Great seventh series which seems to span all four corners of the globe which I find really interesting because
if the story itself gets a bit boring, and lets face it, not every celebrity is very interesting, at least the show has a sort or travelogue feel to it aswell.

The episodes starring Bruce Forsyth (nice little clip Amazon have featured on this page) and Dirvla Kirwin are my favourites from this series, purely because I'm a fan of both of these celebs, but the episode featuring Jason Donovan is also particularly revalatory and much more interesting that I had thought possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darker than expected, 12 July 2011
This review is from: Single-Handed [DVD] (DVD)
I imagined this Irish Police Drama to be a cross between Ballykissangel and Heartbeat but far from it!
Its dark, very dark. The show revolves around Sergeant Jack Driscoll who has just moved to a remote area of
Ireland where he grew up. As you can imagine, all is not what it seems out in the Irish Countryside. Cant
see this show doing much for the Irish Tourist Board, but its still compelling viewing and the finest television
to come out of Ireland since Bally K. Looking forward to what Series 2 has in store when it starts later this month

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection, 8 July 2011
Featuring some of the last episodes starring John Nettles, I felt compelled to buy this Limited Edition.
Not sure why this particular boxset is a limited release, but its a great collection for any fan of more recent
Midsomer Murders episodes and much better value than the single episode releases. Fit for Murder, the final episode with JN, is one of my favourites from the collection

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous!, 8 July 2011
Characters, costumes, sets...all gorgeous! A visually stunning series. Superb acting, great storylines
tackling social issues, women in society. There is a lot of substance to this show and its worth every penny on DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absorbing, 8 July 2011
Series Two sees the women split up in to new camps, struggling to survive the brutal conditions of new commanders Sato and Miss Hassan. This shift in direction made Series 2 the best, for me personally,
Compared with the first series, which looking back just seemed to be easing you in!, this series is utterly absorbing, full of drama, moral dilemmas and social issues (some of which are still relevant today). Such a ground-breaking show, with this series in particular seeming to set the bar for future BBC dramas

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining, 8 July 2011
Rosemary and Thyme, for me, is like an Amateur Midsomer Murders, but equally as entertaining and just as silly.
This boxset contains every episode, which is actually short of 20 but means the quality is consistently excellent
throughout. Felicity Kendal and Pam Ferris play their roles effortlessly and with great chemistry. And the extras
on the DVD are amazing! If, like me, you're a geek when it comes to all the behind the scenes action!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, 6 July 2011
This review is from: Bad Girls Series Three [DVD] (DVD)
Absolutely love this show! For me, it hit its peak around series 3-4 so I'm really pleased this is now out on DVD to relive such great drama! It manages to encompass some truly terrifying moments with a lot of tongue in cheek humour, and its one of those shows where you can just sit through hours of it completely engrossed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Consistently good, 4 July 2011
Series Six is all about the hot new spanish teacher who seems to represent every schoolboys fantasy...great casting.
Aside from that, the show maintains a consistently high standard throughout and even with each series getting longer and longer (it must be on for at least half the year now), the quality is never compromised.

Whats more, this DVD features some great outtakes which had been missing from earlier releases so some added value here
