5.0 out of 5 stars Thrashterpiece!!, 4 Dec. 2008
This review is from: The Blackening (Audio CD)
Even after 18 months from its original release I still find myself listening to this album on my iPod. And now they've released it with a bonus disc and DVD which are both amazing. I'm not even joking when I bought it again just to get the bonus stuff. Plus the new artwork is killer.

They were incredible with Slipknot this week and I sure as hell can't wait to see them again with Metallica next year.

5.0 out of 5 stars They've done it again, 9 Nov. 2008
This is a great album because it encorporates everything you've loved from their previous three albums, and blends them all into an alloy of wonderous metal. It has the powerful choruses of Ascendancy and the riffage from the Crusade. The Metallica-wannabes has been discarded for definite on this album, they have stamped this record with a recognisable sound of their own.

This is a definite contender for album of the year in my eyes, highlights include Down From the Sky and Throes of Perdition. Oh, and the DVD version is well worth getting, it has a making of feature of the guys in the studio recording the album, bonus tracks which include 'Iron Maiden' and a guitar masterclass from Matt and Corey.

5.0 out of 5 stars The boys are back in town!, 2 Sept. 2008
Man I love this album, it's such a feel-good, uplifting album just like the predecessor. It's got everything from heavy southern rock to the softer acoustic stuff to chill you out! If you liked the previous album, you'll love this. Reaching number 1 on the Rock Top 10 and number 23 in the UK Top 40 says it all really! That's how good it is.

Bring on the tour in December!!

5.0 out of 5 stars All hail the king, 11 Aug. 2008
This review is from: Conquer (CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
All hail the king, baby. Max is back. When people thought this album's predecessor 'Dark Ages' was a return to form since their self titled debut, they were wrong. This is definitely the new king of the hill as far as Soulfly albums go. With less experimental breaks and more heavy, thrash and a bit more heavy, this is a must!!

Stand out tracks are 'Conquer', 'For Those About to Rot' and opener 'Blood Fire War Hate' it is relentless, classic Soulfly from start to finish.

Bring on their Bloodstock and mini tour next week, I sure as hell can't wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the next best thing to a Sepultura reunion, 8 April 2008
This review is from: Inflikted (Audio CD)
I've been waiting for this for a looong time, so maybe it's not a Sepultura reunion which is what we were all anticipating, but this is definitely the next best thing! Max and Iggor have got together to make some absolute magic, as good as anything they did in their legendary Seps career.

Tracks like Inflikted, Sanctuary and Hearts of Darkness are the pick of the bunch standing out with Max's signature sound and Iggor's powerhouse drumming.

One of my favourite albums of the year so far, definitely gotta check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars This will kick your ass!!, 2 July 2007
This review is from: The Last Kind Words (Audio CD)
So another stonkin' release from the most underrated band in modern day metal. This is my second favourite album of the year so far, just behind Machine Head's `The Blackening', and that ain't no easy feat!

With tracks like `Not All Who Wander Are Lost' and `Clouds Over California' it's clear why this band should be up there with the heavyweights such as Machine Head, Lamb of God and Mastodon. This album far exceeds their previous two releases both on musicianship and song writing. The playing of drummer Jon Boecklin is truly outstanding along with both guitarists. As anyone knows who saw them at the Download Festival, these guys are pulling off these songs live with no problems.

Definitely a must for all metal fans, if you liked the other two albums, you'll love this one.

Go buy it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Chaos..., 20 Jun. 2007
I couldn't wait for this album, Dream Theater are one of my favourite bands and have been for some time. I was intrigued to hear what they sounded like as well, because having recently signed to Roadrunner Records, I was wondering, would they adapt their sound to suit the label? It could only be a good thing, Roadrunner have the leading pack of metal bands of the time and rightly so should Portnoy and co be among them.

Stand out tracks are `Constant Motion' which is in the vein of 80's era Metallica; chunky and aggressive guitar riffage, a little heavier to what you may expect from DT but you can tell it's them, it has their classic sound stamped all over it. My other favourite is `Forsaken.' A nice and simple groovy, headbanging track, one to turn up loud this one!

Buy the album with the bonus DVD on it, it's well worth it! A 90 minute rockumentary on the new album, behind the scenes stuff like this is always fascinating, and to see these guys in action playing some of this technical stuff is mindblowing, they really are all stupid good at their instruments!

Once again they didn't disappoint. An album well worth the money as you get over an hour's worth of audio pleasure. Be sure to check them out on tour in October at places like Wembley and Cardiff etc too!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Can I get a hell yeah!, 25 May 2007
This review is from: United Abominations (Audio CD)
Sounds like a return to the glory days for Mr. Mustaine and co. Every single one of these tracks are killer, and the production expertise of a certain Andy Sneap certainly help them along the way of sounding so so heavy!

With a guest vocal spot from Lacuna Coil's very own Christina Scabbia on a reworked version of the classic 'A Tout Le Mond' definitely proves a strong point on the album, along with 'Sleepwalker' and 'Washington is Next.' This has already sold well, proving it's quality. It is already a contender for metal album of the year, without a doubt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Now I've got to rock and roll..., 17 April 2007
This review is from: Black Stone Cherry (Audio CD)
This usually isn't my thing, but there's nothing wrong with broadening your horizons is there? I was pleasently suprised with this. It's the sort of music you want to roll down your windows in your car and turn up full blast so everyone can hear it. It's the sort of music you go driving to on late, hot summer evenings, and the sort you have playing at a reasonable level at BBQ parties in your back garden. Generally it's feel good rock n roll with a dirty, Southern edge to it.

Highlights are 'Lonely Train' because of the awesome riffage at the beginning and for the two songs that follow it 'Maybe Someday' and 'When the Weight Comes Down' which are both sing-a-long anthems in the making.

So if you think you're a metal guy through and through, but have a soft spot for rock n roll, give this a listen. For fans of Clutch and Black Label Society, but with a hint of old school rock and roll also.

5.0 out of 5 stars If I could rate it more than 5 stars I would., 29 Mar. 2007

Call yourself a metal fan? Like Master of Puppets?

Listen to this, it's not far off that at all.

This album is going to already be metal album of the year, if not decade. Without a doubt.

That's all that needs to be said.
