4.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of info and encouragement to lose weight and stick to a healthy gut plan, with recipes., 5 Jan. 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Lots of information about gut health. Hannah Ebelthite stuck to the plan for two months after the initial 3 phase 21 day programme, and her belief in the practicality and success of the plan is based on this. During the first 5 days your foods are seriously restricted, then for 9 days a little more variety is introduced, and the final phase brings in additional foods. By this time, the authors feel you are retrained to eat gut-friendly food and avoid unhealthy ones. They also recommend you take a daily supplement and from April to September they also recommend your arms and face are exposed to the sun for 30 mins a day with no protection. I think this latter point is bad advice for people with skin that is sensitive to sun, as members of my family are, so use common sense. Also, as an option, skipping breakfast is recommended by Amanda, ensuring you have 16 hours without food, which may not suit everyone. As with many diet books, there is lots of good advice here, in this book it is supported with shopping lists, very specific foods and recipes, with hints on exercise and even meditation, so if you are really motivated, this book should help you.
I found the tone at times irritating and attempts at humour did not appeal to me - kefir is recommended, "lets get the pronunciation right, its 'kee-fee' (as in Sutherland)" ? However, this does not detract from the usefulness of the book, which has excellent vegetarian options for most recipes, making it suitable for a wide range of people. Most of the ingredients can be bought fairly easily, with some needing to be purchased on line if you don't live in a city.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent thriller by a writer who knows how to keep you turning the page., 2 Jan. 2017

Superb, tense thriller. Can't wait for the next one in the series! The involvement of children adds to the suspense, as do the tangled interactions of the characters.

Diary of a Vampire in Pyjamas
Diary of a Vampire in Pyjamas
by Mathias Malzieu
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £16.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book. Be aware how fragile life is and how fantastic it is to be alive. Live., 1 Jan. 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Honest, imaginative, heartrending and heartwarming at he same time, this beautifully written account of Malzieu's unexpected, life-threatening illness brings home how crucial it is to take nothing for granted, how important it is cherish what really matters and live our life to the full, for it may be snatched away at any moment. A humane, brave, funny, lively, creative man, whose creation of analogies and metaphors support the reader through the book as they support him through the highs, lows, fears and joys that he recounts. The best book I have read in 2016.

The House of Birds
The House of Birds
by Morgan Mccarthy
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £15.90

4.0 out of 5 stars Unfulfilled by his money-centred life, Oliver sets off on a quest that will change him. Not as predictable as a summary infers., 31 Dec. 2016
This review is from: The House of Birds (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
An intriguing read, ideal for over a holiday or a plane journey when you can read for a while without interruptions. Oliver and Kate are believable characters although I found Oliver far more interesting than Kate, who seemed quite unsympathetic - possibly by design. Sophia Louis's hidden diary is an effective plot device and takes us back to the 1920s in a way that makes them very vivid and helps us discover more about Oliver as he finds himself increasingly altered by his discoveries. Full of emotion and covering almost 100 years, this deserves more than just a skim read.

bagsy Savannah Miller x bagsy Glamour Tease Hair Texture Spray 75 ml
bagsy Savannah Miller x bagsy Glamour Tease Hair Texture Spray 75 ml
Price: £8.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy size, discreet scent, but not too effective on very fine, thin hair., 31 Dec. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Neat size, convenient to take in a handbag. Does help to add a little volume but on my thin, very fine hair it did not make a noticeable difference except making my hair a bit stiff. it would probably work better on a fuller head of hair. Scent noticeable but not overpowering.

Easy to pop in a handbag or weekend case.

Silentnight Superwash Pillow - Pack of 2
Silentnight Superwash Pillow - Pack of 2
Offered by Branded_Bedding
Price: £18.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft, quite springy and easy to wash., 29 Dec. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Soft, springy and easy to keep clean, these are ideal everyday pillows. Sensible for a guest bed, as they are not too firm, but are soft enough to be used singly if you like a fairly low pillow, or double if you like more height. Also useful for children’s beds as they wash and dry well.
I like a fairly high pillow and have found that 2 are ideal to give me the height I like, while my husband finds one sufficient.
I cannot comment on their durability as I have not used them for long, but I have had Silentnight products in the past and been very satisfied with their quality so I hope the pillows last well.

The Pale Criminal (Bernie Gunther)
The Pale Criminal (Bernie Gunther)
by Philip Kerr
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Super thriller let down by poor printing choices., 25 Dec. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I read this in one sitting, it has a WW2 era setting and is a fascinating read for anyone interested in that period who also likes thrillers.
My only quibble is the print. It is squashed on the page with insufficient space between the lines and a font size I found too small. Not good for enjoyable reading because of the physical strain on my eyes. Perhaps a better edition would resolve this. I would love to read more by Philip Kerr but will look for editions that are a higher quality print.

Weleda Organic Pomegranate Creamy Body Wash 200ml
Weleda Organic Pomegranate Creamy Body Wash 200ml
Price: £5.10

5.0 out of 5 stars Gentle on the planet, gentle on your skin. Love it., 25 Dec. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I love this. It is eco friendly and plant based, so it is good for the environment too. It lathers up well and leaves skin feeling clean and fresh, as you would expect from a body wash, but I find it far more gentle on my skin than some rather harsh products. It is creamy, you don't need a lot and it has a light, pleasant scent. I swim most days and this is ideal to take with me for an after swim shower as the tube is unbreakable, big enough to last quite a few showers and not heavy in my bag. It would also make a nice little gift for anyone looking for a product that is gentle on the environment as well as gentle on their skin!
