5.0 out of 5 stars Business as usual..., 17 Feb. 2011
This review is from: The People's Key (Audio CD)
Many folk are saying that this is the best CD that Conor has ever released... To be honest this put me off a little. You know how hype goes. Your high expectations usually leave you disappointed.

The People's Key is a great album but this is nothing unusual, if you look back over his catalogue. Conor Oberst seems to just keep churning out fantastic music without too much effort. I own 26 of his releases to date but I think there are 29 in total. I have located the missing three online and will order them soon but just take a second to take that in... 29 releases, in his modest years that is just plain remarkable.

So is this release his best to date?
Well with questions like this, it comes down to opinion and as a better man than I once said "Opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one!"
This is a great album, that's about as far as I will venture. As far as comparing it to any of the others, I couldn't pick a favourite really... In the same way that you couldn't pick a favourite child. I love them all!

As with most Bright Eyes releases, there is the strange introductions to get past. These are used to ward off any casual listeners. Most of these add a lot to the rest of the CD but I did find the introduction to this album a little less than great. It's just some guy rambling on about religion and the begining of the world. I am not religious and I did find this intro a little silly but taken with a pinch of salt, it won't cause any problems.

All in all a great release, a worthy addition to his collection and yet another example of the genius that is Conor Oberst!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good album, 17 Feb. 2011
This review is from: Saddle Creek 50 (Audio CD)
Saddle Creek have so many great bands working together on each others albums. In fact, you'll probably find that many of the individual bands tracks, on this cd, will have members from other bands helping out.

It's this sort of community that has made Saddle Creek so successful.

Lagniappe: Saddle Creek Benefit for Hurricane Katr
Lagniappe: Saddle Creek Benefit for Hurricane Katr
Offered by itembazaar Euro
Price: £6.51

4.0 out of 5 stars A good CD for a good cause!, 17 Feb. 2011
All in all this is a good CD. I like more than a few of the bands that Saddle Creek have taken under their wing.
Check it out, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I have noticed that there is no product information on this page.

This is what Saddle Creek have to say about the CD:

....................................................................................................................

Lagniappe was born on September 2nd, 2005; the result of our watching the surreal events unfolding in New Orleans and the greater Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina.

Old favorites, new faces, and friends of Saddle Creek recorded these 13 tracks in bedrooms, basements, kitchens, living rooms, and even in a couple of studios. The album was put together in one week. It's a menagerie of mostly new songs, a few tracks that should have made it onto albums but for whatever reason didn't, a couple of B-sides, a demo song - whatever people could contribute.

All of Saddle Creek and its artists' profits from the sale of Lagniappe are being donated to the Red Cross for their relief efforts.

Track List:
1. Cursive - "Ten Percent to the Ten Percent"
2. Maria Taylor and Andy LeMaster (Now It's Overhead) - "Breathe"
3. Criteria - "Booketa"
4. The Elected - "San Francisco Via Chicago Blues"
5. Broken Spindles - "Move Away (Broken Spindles Remix)"
6. Cocoon (Jake Bellows of Neva Dinova and Todd Fink of the Faint) - "She's a Ghost"
7. Bright Eyes - "Napoleon's Hat"
8. The Faint - "Hypnotised"
9. Orenda Fink - "No Evolution (acoustic)"
10. Mayday - "Footprints"
11. Sorry About Dresden - "Sunrise: Norfolk, Virginia"
12. Two Gallants - "All Your Faithless Loyalties"
13. The Good Life - "New Year's Retribution"

1.0 out of 5 stars Billy Connolly - Live in London but not original., 23 Jan. 2011
This release is a massive disappointment.
Quite a lot of the material is very, very old and any new material is just average compared to his previous shows. Fans will pick this up to complete the collection but if you are just looking for some good Connolly to keep you company of an evening. Look to his back catalogue... This is a waste of time and money.
If zero stars was a option, I would have taken it but one star will have to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars We've got to teach the world to sing, Danny Wallace is the king !, 29 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I can't believe that I never caught this series on TV. It is absolutely hilarious and utterly thought provoking.

Ever since co writing "Are you Dave Gorman?" with Dave Gorman I have been a fan of both Danny and Dave.

This series, "How to start your own country", is just the kind of thing that you would expect from Danny. From invading a small London Island to snapping at Noam Chomsky "Don't come to me with problems Chomsky, come to me with solutions" to the composing of his very own National Anthem. This is Danny Wallace at his very best.

You won't regret this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as the games despite the lack of puzzles., 29 Dec. 2010
I bought this for my girlfriend and she loves it. She has all the games so far and is currently playing "The Lost Future" for a second time.

I even enjoyed the film myself. It was well scripted and thought out. The only reason I have only given it 4 stars is because I have had to watch it 10 times or more so far...

3.0 out of 5 stars A good CD but it shares at lot of its tracks with another of his CD's, 29 Dec. 2010
This review is from: The Big Yin: In Concert (Audio CD)
Quite a few of these songs appear on another release called "Classic Connolly" but aside from that it is still quite good.

The song "Oh, Dear" almost justifies the purchase alone.

Overall it is just a collection of great moments of Bill at his best, which includes some old audio of Bill where the crowd are chattering away in the background, not really paying him any attention (probably Rangers fans anyway).

It's a good album and you really will be surprised at how well Bill works with just audio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two things one stone..., 7 Dec. 2010

The original is good and the remake is great. I actually managed to get this boxset for cheaper that I would have paid for the remake alone. Bargin!

A bit gruesome but with a decent story to back it up.

This CD has a lot of heart and is quite varied. Conor and Mike are as great as always and the CD just works.

Like folk? You'll love this!

This is a largly unknown film but is one of the best that Bill ever made. The idea is great and Bill is at his best.
