1.0 out of 5 stars Lots of shoulds and incredibly preachy. Do. Not. Buy., 4 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I don't recommend this book for anyone interested in a vegan or veggie diet for your child. I found the language incredibly preachy and unhelpful. I'm a vegan and have been for over 10 years and found this guide to be just ridiculous. It's full of iron clad shoulds- which are out dated and not informed- eg purée food being the only way you should feed your baby and only breast feeding (no consideration for those who can't or have difficulty breast feeding and zero baby weaning info. In fact the guide actually advises against it providing only one way to feed your baby or else!). After reading a few sections I actually feel really concerned that this is a piece of media available and produced by viva. Please if you're interested in raising your child vegan and weaning in general don't get this book. Look around. Look online. I've gained more knowledge from Facebook groups and friends then from this terrible booklet. Wish I never bought it and will be throwing it away because I'd hate to donate this to a charity shop and someone buy it thinking it was actually useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars it's been a while since big willy has been golden..., 7 Feb. 2005
it's been quite some time since a will smith movie has grabbed my attention. hoping he doesn't just go the way of eddie murphy (kids movies and mostly disney) so i was worried that i'd hate this movie, please dont let it be another rip off of indipendence day (whicih was a excellent will smith movie!)
if you think this movie is bad from the reviews and previews i advice you to see it, watch it as a movie not a will smith movie.
the special effects dont dazzle you and the story does interest you
the robots are great too!
will smith then... he's great and yes his part is very much like many of his other parts but it's watchable and good action.

5.0 out of 5 stars fragile and god-like, 23 Jan. 2005
i'm one of those younger generation sort who always told my parents and my grand parents i wouldn't be caught dead listening to this man... ring of fire to me was a comedy track, damn those bad advertisemnts i saw as a kid they ruined this man for me until i was in the back of my teens...
i'm a lover of music of all kinds now and i'm relishing the day my kids poke fun of me, bt i will sit them down and say 'listen to this kid...' and place this cd in the high tech sound system of the future...
because this man is fragile, this man is a god, this man is history and i love this record
from the opening you get the feeling maybe mr cash was wondering when his time would come, the feelings there but not so morbid, it's message now on reflection is a farewell of sorts, the cover of hurt won many alt-fans with NIN... but fiona apple, personal jesus...
this album will be my gift to my children

5.0 out of 5 stars good book insightful, 15 Oct. 2004
i went to the baltic exhibition featuring the work of nancy spero and kik smith and i was really inspired by there work i didn't feel as if i had to pick a favourite artist as they both have different yet similar work. i bought this book hoping to give myself an even closer look at the artists. i was impressed with the book. it has alot of excellent pictures, and very good articles but i would suggest that if you buy this dont let it be the only work you get based on these artist. there are sooooo many different books and i recommend you buy all of them!! but i actually think that this book is a very exceptable starting point, and features the artists work in a very interesting and proifessional mannor.

5.0 out of 5 stars north east band ready to let you in on the secret, 12 May 2004
This review is from: All Roads To Fault (Audio CD)
something magical happened one night... i was waiting in the crowd at a gig to see 'million dead' at newcastle uni... it was amazing for a number of reasons... one the singer of the group i'd come to see spat in my face (by accident) and two... i saw milo, by far the best band of the night... sorry million dead but you have nothing on these boys they are amazing simply pure engery. the singer is the size of a small penut i could fit him in my pocket! he's got a voice that makes me want to be able to play guitar. the bass player swings around like he was a being contolled by the music alone...
the e.p was worth waiting for and i did get an invite to the album launch but missed it *blast!* it was another great night in fact i have come to believe that every night with milo is a gret night
there seems to be some great bands comign up out of the tired reto we are so cooool era and actually sounding better than those bands you pay 20 quid for a ticket and feel as if you should have satyed home with the cd....
milo are one of those great bands
if you buy this album you will evetually be drawn into the unbelieveable journey of trying to see them live...
do it!
and buy a t-shirt

3.0 out of 5 stars bought it for my boyfriend, 31 Jan. 2004
This review is from: Tribute to Mudvayne (Audio CD)
i bought this album for my boyfriend, he's a big mudvayne fan and i thought that this would be something he could ass to hsi collection,
apprentally the singer tries very hard to sound like lead singer KUd but cant at times hold the notes as well, but it's like all tribute albums its the same songs but they dont sound the same,
it's still something worth getting if your a fan, i would still buy it for him even if i knoew it wasn't completely amazing. i think the point of this type of album is to have fun really-it would be better if there was more than the one band playing the songs-perhpas some high priced acts in math metal but still it was interesting to listen to
not for somone who has just started to like mudvayne i think it's for the obsessed fan to be honest

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best albums of this year, 31 Jan. 2004
This review is from: The Disconnection (Audio CD)
honestly, i didn't know how Carina Round would follow up such a distinctive sound as her debut album, i've played it to death. i love it
it opened my eyes to jazz, to that amazing voice and the emotion- i havent heard an artist with so much passion for a long long time, female singers seem to stay in the 'singer-more songwriter' box, clever lyrics with an okay voice. however carina round made you notice that not only did she actually write some really amazing lyrics but her voice was more an instrument than something to follow the music in the background
this album is very different from the first album, but please dont let that put you off, i dont see it as carina changing her style but just an extension of her music, it more produced but this doesn't mean that it's another 'over hyped over produced shoved a electric guitar solo' kind of record it's no avril...
it's damn near raw as it can get,
there are more intruments used on this record and that i love because it gives carina the most amazing chances t let her voice shine-the way she sings again will make you wish you were live in the studio-the electricity could power my cd player alone.
favourite lines,
'smoked your ciggarette, coz your lips had touched it'
'i coudl die here and never be found out'
reminds me so much of that tortured feeling that lost love or perhaps unrequited love can have, i dont think that album is about love-to be honest it reminds me of the reinvention of goldfrapp's black cherry, it's a sexy little album very honest very raw

and it's an album i could play repeatedly, i dont think it loses effect in the length of the album, i actually think it's a damn good length-makes me want more-what i did notice is that as the songs progress you reconise carinas voice more-as the debut album
in short, this album is by far one of the best i've heard-it's sooooo different, so raw and new i cant egt enough i cant believe that yet again she's made an album that is sooo different yet so good.
of the albums currently on realese i would compare this album to 'goldfrapp-black cherry' for it's raw-ness and lyrics, 'Coralfang-the distillers' although it's not a punk album i think that carina and brody have the same electrity in there voices, i also think that is you like, the wild side to Heather nova-particully ouster, and the darkness of PJ Harvey you will no doubt love this.
even still it's a damn good album, it needs to be listened!

5.0 out of 5 stars the start of a classic song writer, 19 Oct. 2003
This review is from: Jill Sobule (Audio CD)
after her debut which isn't as sharp tongued as her most recent work i was doubtfulto buy anything pre-pink pearl. however i have to admit this album is the start of that sassy, sharp, clever and very very amazing singer...
kissed a girl, supermodel... these songs remind me of 90's movies like clueless and all those empire records breakfast club rip offs.
the album isn't like any artists i own. jill yet again makes another cd sit in my player for longer than a week.
cant stop humming her tunes, cant stop being influenced by her style. wish that i could hang out in her head to know how she does it.

5.0 out of 5 stars long time fan, more people in the uk should know these girls, 10 Sept. 2003
This review is from: If It Was You (Audio CD)
tegan and sara are yet another amazing musical product of canada.... and i'm a huge fan, i'm a going to look up on there website and fansites kind of fan, i'm a buying magazines with them in kind of fan... in fact i'm a importing there albums from the U.S kind of fan, coz i fell for these girls way back when.
i was recomended the album from amazon, well actually it was there first album... i bought both coz i read all the reviews and checked them out-two twin sisters who play their own instuments, come from canada and were quite underground.
so you've had the background i guess i can give a bias opinion but it's up to you to judge,
this album is alot more harder than the debut which i recommend if your starting to get into tegan and sara because it's kinda like a story really they develope alot in this album, more punky, electric and louder. like the amazing opener, and songs like 'i hear noises' and currentally my fav 'city girl' all about the true story of one of the girls moving to a new city, breaking with her partner and being alone in a new place, angry inm a new place...
they like to share vocals on tracks which i think adds to the tracks, i love how they can be very raw almost like the early recordings of liz phair without the swear words, although the subjects i think are more ani difranco and damn they rule with writing songs coz i dont like a lot of obvious artists unless they can be brutally honest and tegan and sara deliver a good record with some clouded lyrics that make you wonder what went on to write the song. one that gets me ever time is 'and darling...' recorded in tegans house i think and it's pretty raw and the vocals sound like they were literally recorded on tegans living room floor around a tape recorder-it's very cosy and cool
i would say that this album in total is different from the debut and if you wanted to buy it first before listening to the other album i think it would be a good investment because overal it's a good album-sounding like.... ani difranco, sarah harmer, lisa lobe, and maybe jill sabule-for the guitars and clever lyrics, it has a pretenders kinda feel- very chrissie hyde
buy it and rawk out a while if your into fem-rock that isn't alanis morissette and dido just buy it and have an alternative

4.0 out of 5 stars trashy and very american..., 10 Aug. 2003
This review is from: Whip Smart (Audio CD)
i discovered liz through amazon, like a few other artists... i bought w.c.s.e first liz's 3rd album then after becoming addicted i bought this album and after collecting them all i can discribe this album as the trashy one, i love it, i makes me want to drive across america in a caddy, or maybe sitting in a bar late night drinking... it's the cowboy boots i never owned
technically i see it as ythe older sister of guyville liz phairs first outing, it's kinda a wlittle wiser and older and some of the songs i could see on the record but they are older. i think what makes the album have that rawness is the feel of the music being recorded almost live, as if liz and a collection of musican pals sat around in soem dusty hot studio drinking jack daniels and jamming some cool southern rock,
and i love it
lyric wise i feel that unlike guyville where the focus was mainly on alot of men and trouble with relationships this album veers towards alot of liz's own feelings about men, about maybe having children, about maybe what to do in the future...
guyville i see as what happened before the record whipsmart i see as what is happening now and how all the events that happened beofre have effected her now...
in short, this album is damn good, slightly more produced than guyville but alittle more relaxed. not so much angst, i feel liz doesn't need to scream about what has happened because she did that in guyville now she can simply let you in on secrets and talk things through
nice record-recommen it if you like kirsten hersh or raw sheryl crow
