Beautiful from start to finish, 17 Nov. 2003
I first saw this film in the cinema when I was a child. Recently, it was being shown on Film Four and I decided to watch it again out of curiousity. I'm so glad I did!! While it is a very enchanting film for a young child, I think you can only really appreciate the beauty of the film as an adult. The scenes filmed on the island are so incredibly breathtaking I must admit I had a lump in my throat watching!! And I'm booking myself a one way flight to Sardinia!! Watching the relationship between boy and horse develop was one of the most moving relationships I have ever seen on film - especially considering there was no dialogue. I can't say enough about this film - as close to perfection as you can get on the big screen. Everything was beautiful - the scenery, the acting (particularly the little boy Alec), the music and cinematography and, of course, that beautiful black stallion.
