5.0 out of 5 stars Happiness is a RED FANG riff, 23 Oct. 2013

The first eponymous album, a collection of EPs, has "Prehistoric Dog" but no other real standout tracks for me. But I think you could probably die happy having written Prehistoric Dog. Murder the Mountains has some fantastic moments, "Wires" is epic and I love the slow riffing of "Throw Up" but I think this is their best album to date, taken as a whole. No filler. At around the 2 minute mark of the first track "DOEN", a proper Red Fang riff appears and from then on I'm smiling. What I love about this band is that when they find a great riff they don't necessarily feel the need to do show you what else they can do, they let you enjoy it. There are some changes of pace too, it isn't just a barrage and the closing track "Every Little Twist" is perfect layered stoner rock. Red Fang are a band to see live (they absolutely smashed Download this year) and I'm looking forwards to hearing these new songs on the next tour. You should be, too.

I first saw FTR at the Hit The Deck festival last year and they were the standout band of the day. Heavy riffs, bursting with energy, great stage presence, really accomplished. Sometimes this energy doesn't quite burst from a record, but that is not the case here. Great production lets you have the FTR experience without the flying sweat. As well as energy, there are great songs too, no tracks that I skip when listening to this glorious barrage (Empty mirrors is a favourite, though). If you like this hardcore/metal sound, get involved. The band gave Knives away as a free download and this bodes very well for the next album which the band are currently recording. See them live, Lee is an epic frontman. Support them, should be a great year for the Rhino!!

5.0 out of 5 stars No-one sounds like John, 15 Oct. 2008

If you're looking for John Martyn beyond Solid Air, this is a great place to start. As well as glorious versions of some of that album's songs, there are some good ways to get a foot into the door of his other work. Just sit back and enjoy the magnificent aural landscapes of a flawed genius.
