3.0 out of 5 stars Great starter set, 21 Jun. 2013

These are a great first set of Tunisian crochet hooks to learn this type of crochet. However the finish on the hooks is not perfect as they feel rough to touch and one of my hooks arrived detached from its cord. The join between the hook and cord is lovely and smooth but the length of the cord is fixed this be an issue with very large projects. These are very good value compared to other sets for Tunisian hooks available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fits and works well., 21 Jun. 2013

Great value for money and feels nice to hold. It's versatile in use - I particularly like that the case is also a stand. It's also useful that the case can be separated so that games can be played without the flap getting in the way.

Food Glorious Food: From Cakes to Curries to Cornish Pasties - Favourite Dishes from the Search for Britain's Best Recipe (Cookery)
by BERTRAMS TRADING LTD
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Varied selection of dishes, 21 Jun. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The book is well put together with good photos. The recipes are divided regionally with a good selection of both savoury and sweet. There are traditional dishes eg Cornish pasties along side more international fare. I've made a few recipes from the book, chicken & leek pie and bonfire stew which were straight forward to make and the instructions were easy to follow. This book is the one to pick up when some comfort food is needed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent starting point for Gansey knitting, 8 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is very well illustrated, has detailed photographs and lots of information for a knitter new to ganseys to get started. This is not for beginner knitter as it assumed that the knitter has basic skills and is comfortable working on double pointed needles and/or circular needles.
There is a brief history of gansey knitting and the difference between shaped armholes and gussets. There is a section on the yarn used, needles etc and how to measure a garment being knit in the round. The first sweater is a basic man's sweater with little patterning and is based on an everyday work design and has underarm gussets. The secound pattern is a ladies design with vertical panels and shaped underarms. The remaining patterns are based on traditional styles found around the coast of the UK and all are well illustrated and with charts. The next section of the book is motifs and other stitch patterns which are photographed and charted. Finally initials are charted out and yarn sources and a short bibliography. The sweaters in the book are knit with German yarns which might be hard to find so the author has suggested American and the traditional gansey English yarns and the needles that would normally be used.

There are other books on Amazon on this topic and for more info I have used: Knitting Ganseys andPatterns for Guernseys, Jerseys & Arans (Dover Knitting, Crochet, Tatting, Lace). While both of them are very good this one seems easier for the beginner to this topic as there are more photos and diagrams.

The 2012 Teachers' Standards in the Classroom (Achieving Qts Series)
The 2012 Teachers' Standards in the Classroom (Achieving Qts Series)
by Roy Blatchford
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Too general., 8 Jun. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I expected this to be a simple straight forward guide but it seem full of jargon. The standards are quoted then discussed how they could be met in the classroom. The most interesting aspect of the book were the anecodates from the author's time as an inspector. At the end of each chapter there is a section at the end of each chapter with questions to ask yourself about your placement and how they achieve or fail to meet the standard which is probably very useful for a trainee or NQT year teacher. However as it wasn't written for a specific subject or keystage may be a bit too simple and general for experienced teachers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great intro to historical sweater styles, 17 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book gives the basic of different sweater styles from around the world. It is presumed that you can knit and use of more advanced techniques e.g. steeks. The chapters are Origins(history), traditional yarns, equipment, knitting methods, techniques and tools for planning sweaters. Chapter 7 is the evolution of shapes with lots of line drawings listing fifteen types. Chapter 8 is style alternatives descibing cardigans and different necklines. Chapter 9 descrbes sweater styles based on colour stranding. Four different garments from Norway, six garments from Sweden, five from Great Britain, two from Iceland, one from the Faeroe Islands, one from Samiland, two from Cowichan and an American folk art design. Chapter 10 describes five sweaters based on intarsia. Chapter 11 describes sweaters based on texture. There are two Danish garments, six gansey garments from Great Britain, two Dutch fisherman's sweaters, three aran sweaters from Ireland, a jacket from Norway, and six designs from Austria and Germany. Chapter 12 has 3 designs based on geometric patterning, Chapter 13 has a Finnish design using both knitting and crochet. There are lots of helpful line drawing and charts but no photos but given that this book was originally published in 1985 proably to be expected. This book is a great addition to a knitter's bookshelf if interested in the historical aspects of design and to use this in their own designs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great adventure, 17 April 2013
This review is from: Lost Worlds (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Very different from the Young Sherlock Holmes books so will probably appeal to different readers. The hi-tech features both in the story and the cover make the story more interesting and both my 13 and 11 yr olds like the modern feel it gave the book. The characters are interesting and to story moves quickly without being overly complex and the little loose ends left at the end will hopefully be solved in another book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read, 17 April 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Fast moving story with great characters and a great ending. By mixing different genres, this book is original and imaginative, but there was a bit too much going on at times making it difficult to remember all that had happened.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works well but not as refined as Cisco or Netgear kit., 25 Feb. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This was set up from opening the box to working with laptops etc. within 30 min and 20 minutes of that was trying to get it hanging on the wall! The wireless signal is strong & steady but the aerials are very long approx. 8" (20cm) which probably help. The router was straight forward to setup however the software comes on an mini disc which is no good for slot drives. Also the status lights on the router are on the bottom edge so cannot be seen unless the router is hung high on the wall or placed on a desk. It may say for BT connections on the description however I'm not with BT and it works fine. The software is not as sophisticated as with previous routers I've had as cannot assign a static IP address to kit. If you're buying this for a basic network of a few pieces of wireless equipment with place to stand the router this would be a great however if you've got more advanced requirements then perhaps look at the main manufacturers of Netgear or Cisco.
