4.0 out of 5 stars Challenge Facing 21st Century Church, 19 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Gnosticism has plagued the Church from the time of Jesus. The rise of modernism took the challenge to a different level & although around for several centuries, the guise it has taken in the Church in recent times has taken it onto a new plane - "I have special knowledge that can take me to new levels of spirituality - just follow me & you can have it too." The rise of postmodernism was as a counter to this but Tom Wright points out the dangers of this becoming a new version of Gnosticism. He encourages one to get back to how Jesus dealt with 'empire' which is still a active reality in the 21st Century.

Reconciling All Things (Resources for Reconciliation)
Reconciling All Things (Resources for Reconciliation)
by Emmanuel Katongole & Chris Rice
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Practical and Informative Approach to a Critical Subject, 24 Feb. 2011
Katongole & Rice approach this central topic in the Christian faith in a most practical manner. They write much from their personal experiences on a subject which is often reglected, especially in its implications for our day-to-day lives. Much is made of our need to be reconciled to God, which the authors write must be a launch pad for reconciling all things. But they show that when we are not reconciled to our brothers and sisters then our reconciliation with God is in question. Our reconciliation to the whole of creation is also taken into consideration. They look at situations in their native lands, viz Uganda and the USA as well as many other conflict situations. As a South African, their attention to the icons of reconciliation, Desmond Tutu & Nelson Mandela, is much appreciated. A most worthwhile read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winner, 22 Feb. 2011
This is another winner from Brian McLaren. I did not find it quite as informative & challenging as "Everything must Change" which I have also very recently read. What Brian writes here gets to grips with the challenges that our faith in Jesus faces in the age in which we live. I meet up with followers of Jesus regularly who in their truly honest moments know that all is not right - I think Brian has written something here which will provide some answers to the questions they have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing information, 25 Oct. 2009
In a church world where obligation, guilt and the law have destroyed so many people who have been intoduced to Jesus, this book comes as a breath of fresh air. The image most people have of God is that for the most part, he is either sad or mad with us, whereas as a father, he loves us and desires to lavish us with his love and to tell us that he is glad with us, which will empower us to love him and to please him. This book has the capacity to change your life forever when you understand how much God loves you.
