This story didn't take long to read but it covered a range of emotions and was a lovely read. Happily recommend this to all dog-lovers out there!

Really not that good - sorry! One or two of these little vignettes were OK and made me smile but the majority were just a little dull. Plus there were quite a few acronyms which don't mean much if you have never worked in the Post Office.

Short story? Shorter than some flash fiction I've read. I mean, the blurb is almost as long as this "story". For heaven's sake - why on earth did M C Beaton bother with this? It's not even that good.

Hopeless for a British market. It's American, very prescriptive. An awful lot about cleaning - mainly with vinegar. A lot of American terminology. Really not sure how useful this one is to be honest. Don't pay for it.

I did read this after reading Marie Kondo's book - which IS helpful.

2.0 out of 5 stars I certainly wouldn't pay for this one., 12 Jun. 2016

OK it's short, but there's nothing new or innovative in this. It's American so maybe not so helpful for the British market but it was free and quick to read. I wouldn't have wanted to pay for it.

I picked this one up back in 2012 but have only just read it ...

This is a great idea - writing a short story every day for a month must really focus the writer and you know it's only for a month so you can see the end in sight so it's not a large and scary thing to try and do. Great idea for members of a writing group - especially one that meets monthly!

Enjoyed most of the stories. Thought one or two weren't maybe so good but under the circumstances of the writing that's fair enough.

Well done that man and sorry it took me so long to get around to reading it.

I have been a Joe Cocker fan since I went to see Mad Dogs and Englishmen back in 1971 (and I have the vinyl album of that as well!).

Joe Cocker (bless him) is fabulous. This is a great compilation and I'm very pleased with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure about this one to be honest., 18 May 2016
This review is from: The Red House (Kindle Edition)
I thought this was an odd book. On the one hand, there were some lovely turns of phrase, very poetic in places.

On the other hand it was a tad confusing. I found that sometimes it was hard to know who was thinking/talking and the point of view changes a lot which doesn't help. I could keep track of the youngsters, particularly Benjy, but I found the adults quite muddly as there wasn't a lot to distinguish between them - they all seemed to have the same "voice".

Not a great deal happened. Odd bits of crises, discoveries and accidents, but in the main it was a slice of life so a lot of it was the sort of everyday family conversations - and as a lot of these were made by the adults with the similar "voices" it was a bit of a drag in places ...

And can anyone tell me why there were no speech marks, but italics instead? I mean, what was the point of that?
