These DVDs are good, simple adventure entertainments. They are not perhaps the most original stories but they are good fun and great for a Saturday/Sunday afternoon or early evening film.

1.0 out of 5 stars Slow and not engaging enough, 8 Oct. 2014

This review is from: Sea of Gold (Kindle Edition)
The book seemed to start with the ingredients of a good thriller. A prologue gives a good introduction to the central character, but the main story I found to be slow paced and hard to follow.

I managed to read over a third of the way through (according to my kindle's percentage) but nothing seemed to happen other than a series of set conversations about fraud for a shipment and a missing ship. Indeed the initial chapters related to the fraud, suddenly seemed to fizzle out around chapter 9 or 10 when the character is suddenly asked to investigate the missing ship.

Whether the author is to later tie these threads together, I don't know but by Chapter 12 I have had enough. The story seems to go nowhere. It may be one of those books that you have to stick with if you are so inclined, but I am not.

1.0 out of 5 stars If you like a novel like a Twitter narrative, Go for it - Otherwise steer clear, 9 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having read a number of other novels by Cecelia Ahern, I was really disappointed with this one. It started as a "text" narrative between 2 characters & I thought - OK a bit of a strange start. However the book continued using this technique for the remainder (as far as I could see) and I stopped reading after the first chapter. If I wanted to read a "script" then I would bye a play rather than a novel. This hasn't put me off the author, but I couldn't recommend this one

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant audio quality for the price, 9 Aug. 2014

The first time I used them I was amazed by the improved audio quality, My previous in-ear phones were from JVC that I bought at the airport about 5-6 years ago & I had always been impressed by these, but the SoundMagic E10s were a massive improvement. I can see why they have been marked best for the price by What Hi-Fi this year. I would certainly recommend them

5.0 out of 5 stars An Original Sci-Fi tale from a different perspective, 29 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found this one an original and enjoyable sci-fi tale. It is told from the perspective of the ordinary soldier/military man who does not excel in any particular field i.e. the regular "grunt". Many other military sci-fi have the lead character as a super-human hero who has a fantastic skill in some area. This concentrates on what it would be like for the ordinary "you or me", but this in no way detracts from the story which flows well & is highly entertaining. Looking forward to reading the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good read in the series, but still not enough background, 19 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The story continues with Nova Whiteside, but I still find I am wondering a little about her background and the point that got her to the start of this story. Still, like the first the story was well-paced and entertaining. I will likely go on to get the 3rd in the series

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Story - What happened before?, 19 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoyed the story. It was well-written and well-paced, but I wasn't sure what had got the main character - Nova Whiteside - to the point where the story starts. I felt there wasn't enough background or history introduced at the start to understand what was motivating the character or what she was like as a person. I would still recommend the read & I have already purchased book 2 in the series myself
