The box set features three dvds of lion king. 2 and 3rd installment never released in the cinema. The instalmments are great follow ups. Lion King was released in 1995. It is a remarkle animation and one of Disney finest pieces. I love the storyline, characters, African setting and songs. The story follow the lives of lions in a large and stunning settings of Africa. There are some other creatures as well. It is beautifully depicted. Disney has nailed it with Lion King. My niece enjoyed it along with the who family. Thank you Disney for a treat.I loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light hearted and enjoyable, 24 May 2014
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore star in this romantic comedy. The duo previously acted in the Wedding Singer from the same director.

I found the film enjoyable and light hearted. It is not an oscar material film. Do not expect seriousness and sophistication. It is meant to be fun and silly. This is a typical Adam Sandler's film, that I have watched. He is a lot older. He has not lost the touch as a fine comedy actor. The plot is about two single parents Jim and Lauren. The first blind date turns into a discaster. They both go different directions, without the intending of meeting again. There is a coincedence, as the two meet on an South African holiday with their children. How is this possible? There are plenty of laughs, as the children are mischievous and cheeky. There is plenty of African humour. The African adventure features the wildlife, a holiday resort, a restuarnt and swimming. The audience laughed out. The humour is plentiful. Can a romance bloosom between the two? The kids are warming to the parents as the film progresses.

Bearing in mind the catergory of film, I would award 4 stars. If you looking for a film with laughter, I would recommend the Blended. It will not be everyone's cup of tea. I enjoyed it as a whole. If you are looking for something sophisticated serious, look eleswhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weakest film of Arnold Schwarzengeer, 22 May 2014
This review is from: Sabotage [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Arnold Schwarzengeer is renowned for playing action heroes particularly during the 80s and 90s. He quit the movie business for some time to pursue a career in politics. He did another film prior to this. The key question here: Has Sabotage re-establish the movie career of Arnold? The latest one is not one of the finest pieces. The plot is about DEA agents under the leadership of John Wharton. Their mission is to track drug cartels. One mission is under investigation, as agents are accused of stealing money from drug cartels. The team are suspended until pending investigation. The film starts of well. It goes downhill after a certain time. It did not flow from beggining to the end. There are high levels of violence scenes. I did not feel much storyline developed following a promising start. Character development is weak, as details about John's character is sketchy.. The violence scenes overpowering at times. I am questioning the purpose of the scenes in context of the plot. It is a confused and disjointed piece of thriller. It heads no direction at all. The script writing expose weaknesses, as the chrarcters are poorly utilised.I have seen much better thrillers than this. It is underwhelming and did not thrill me at all, as I expect from a high octane thriller. 2 stars is a fair reflection. Critics offered negative reviews and for the right reasons. I think Arnold needs to much better than this mediocre piece of thriller. The action hero will soon become yesterday news, unless he gets a better script.I am dissapointed, as I expected better. I am being open minded and honest if a film is not good. If you are looking for a high quality thriller, look elsewhere. The ending is one of the weakest I have seen in a thriller. It is incoherent and a poorly crafted thriller. To elaborate, it felt the film completely shifted to something different. It is hard understand the relevance. I think this film will go down in price quickly. It is a shame, as it could have been good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watchable, but nothing brilliant, 18 May 2014
Godzilla returns to the screen in 2014, since last screen appearance in 1999. The story starts in 1999 featuring an American scientist Joe and his family living in Japan. The wife of the scientist suddenly dies in a radiation leak at a a Nuclear plant near Tokyo triggered by an earthquake. The film fast forward fifteen years later, where Joe's son has settled in San Francisco with a wife and son. Joe is still haunted by the wife death. He becomes obsessed in searching for answers by wanting to know the truth. Could this be a radiation leak or something sinister? The momentum of the film picks up following a slow start, as an unknown creature creates havoc around the world. Thousand perish and the US military battle to save their country. Who is going to save the day? Godzilla is the saviour, but there are only small bursts featuring the character. There is plenty of action and excitement. It does overshadow the film at times. It needed to be toned down in parts. It needed an educational element about the origins of the creatures to make it interesting. The concept and ideas are interesting, as it revolves around evolution. The special effects are amazing, as the creatures are brought to life and look terrifying. The characterisation is weak and one dimensional. I did not really connect to the characters at all.The film is crying out for solid characters. 3 stars is a fair reflection. I felt the film is a little rushed in the end and a bit disjointed at times. I did find the film watchable, but seen better. There are a few positive points, but a few glaring weaknesses. I was not blown away by the film.

Railway Man [Blu-ray + UV Copy]
Railway Man [Blu-ray + UV Copy]
Dvd ~ Colin Firth

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging, hollowing and a well crafted piece of film-making, 15 May 2014
The Railway Man is based on a true story. It tells the story of Eric Lomas, a British Officer captured by the Japanese and transferred to prisoner of war camp. It takes the viewers on a historical journey of World War 2. He joined alongside fellow troops to work on a Thai-Burma Railways. The condition the prisoners endured were appalling and terrifying. Japanese were known to be ruthless and brutal in handling prisoners. There are disturbing and distressing scenes throughout the film, as there are flashbacks concerning Eric's ordeals.

The film unfolds a story about the terrible ordeals and traumas a young Eric experienced. The Japanese interrogated Eric, unless he revealed information kept secret. Eric was wounded and beaten physically in appalling conditions. How did he manage to survive this horrible situation ? The scenes showing the torture and beatings of Eric makes your blood boil. The scenes are hollowing and shows humanity in a negative and dark light.

The film draw parallels between past and present. An older Eric remained psychologically traumatised by the experiences and ordeals during the 1980s. How did Eric cope? He becomes a married man, with a strong passion for railways. His wife faced an upheaval battle in helping Eric. He becomes increasingly isolated and prone to mood swings How did he overcome the wartime nightmares that kept haunting? Lomax decided to confront one of his captors directly, in an attempt to overcome the bitterness and hatred. Did he forgive the captor? Did he take revenge? The story is about redemption, forgiveness and overcoming fear.

The Railway Man is a well- crafted piece of film making. It depicts the story of the struggles facing one man to bury the past. Colin Firth is undeniably one of the leading British actors. The pedigree of films speak volumes of the actor. His performance is astonishing and credible. Firth draws us into the character by recreating how life for what was like for a soldier in World War 2. The character is engaging. The support acting is excellent, as Nicole Kidman and Jeremy Irvine deserve strong praise. The historical accuracy cannot be argued about. The facts and pictures are presented about the events in the end credits for enhancing authenticity. The film from beginning to the end flows well. The ending is one of the most saddest I have seen. I almost shed in tears. If you are into drama and historical films, I would recommend The Railway Man. 5 stars is a true reflection of the film, for handling such a delicate issue, delivery, characterisations and showcasing world class acting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing and failed to meet my expectations, 6 May 2014
This review is from: Pompeii [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Pompeii fails to completely meet my expectations. The idea sounds promising. The subject matter is fascinating. The trailer intrigued me. On initial impression, I believed it would be a classic movie. The movie paints an entirely different picture once viewed. My perception changed completely.

The story telling has a lot to desire. There is hardly any depth in story telling. I would like to hear stories about empires and kingdoms which I expected from such a complex and vast area. From my understanding, politics dominated the agenda. Where are the politics? On top of that, conflicts escalated between parties. There is no sophistication at all in the film. To eloborate on this, the high ranking indviduals would enage in dialogues at certain places. The dialogues in the film do not reflect this at all. The collesum collapsed from a volcanoe eruption known as Mount Vesuvius. The volcano wiped towns by burning to ashes. We see this footage in the end, but timing of the footage is not right. The coliseum set the scene for a bloody battle ground. Fighting springs in my mind. The fight scenes overshadow for a large proportions of the film. There are high level of violence scenes, which I consider too gory and unnecessary in certain parts of the film. It needed to draw on a different angle for adding depth and making it interesting. Some examples could be focusing on town folks and councel meetings, rather than boring viewers with usual clichés. There are noble indviduals who would fight the case of freedom, through reading a Robert Harris' s novel. The film clearly show ideas are lacking and too cliched.

Character development is very weak. The characters are not engaging and are bland. I find the characters are one dimensional, as they only want to prove a point by wanting to be the hero. Where I have seen this before? A familar site featuring this type of hero. It is boring me. There is no sparkle in the characters. There is some romance in the film, but needed much more focus. It felt too rushed, as it crammed towards the end.The special effects are stunning, but it tends to overpower quite a lot. CGI on its own is not sufficient.

The balance between storytelling, character development and CGI does not work at all. It has been poorly thought out. I expected better from the film. Injustice has been done. I have read books about Pompeii. The understanding and knowledge demonstrated is limited of the subject area. I cannot fault the acting, but cast are poorly utilised. Pompeii represents an important chapter in history. Why has there has been a lack of planning and direction? It could have been inspiring piece of story telling I will not waste my money buying this on blue ray. 2 stars is truly justified. If you are looking for a solid film about roman empires, I would look elsewhere by typing in roman empire films and there are far better, with positive reviews. This is by far the weakest as it neglects key areas and too cliched.

2.0 out of 5 stars A great idea, but poorly delivered, 1 May 2014
The study of dinosaurs is a fascinating subject. I applaud the idea of showing an animation about these pre historic creatures. Deliverly weighs greater importance than ideas and animation. To be frank, I found the animation incredibly dull and annoying when expectations were so high. It lacks the comical and quirkiness of animations designed for kids.It is very slow paced. There is a lack of excitement to maintain interest levels. It is a struggle to really engage with the animation. Walking with dinosaurs shows plenty of potential. Lack of planning has damaged of what potentially could have propelled to a great animation. I found the voices irritating and getting on my nerves. I found it strange there is no mouth movement at all in the characters. The CGI is first class, but it does not compensate of what could have been good. Kids would find this boring. I just could not get into it. There are better animations. This is by far the weakest I have seen.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Amazing Spiderman 2 review, 19 April 2014
The Amazing Spiderman 2 returns to the big screen featuring the web based hero. Andrew Garfield Stars as the super hero. The latest film features a new super villain.

Jamie Fox stars as a geeky loner Matt Dillion. He is an employee of Oscorp Industries. He develops an obsession of Spiderman. This obsession has been triggered by the fact that Spiderman rescued him and it means a lot. There is a shrine in Matt's room showing Spiderman. He mumbles about Spiderman missing his birthday. He loses the balance whilst doing a maintenance job. He plunges into the water of a container consisting of electric eels. These are used for experiments. He becomes electrified, thus becoming Electro. He goes on the rampage of terrifying New York, with his powers. Spiderman faces a new enemy. How does he battle with the new enemy? Can he reason with the enemy?

Harry Osborn Jnr, a close friend of Peter Parker arrives at Oscorp Industries. Harry's father sadly perishes, as he is terminally ill. He is appointed the new CEO of the industry. We learn a lot about Harry as a person. The young Harry is facing a major problem. He is requesting a massive favour from Spiderman, who advises not to do. Harry is an explosive person, as he shows a distrubing and dark side to his personality. This side story open up for future sequels, as you are about to find out.

Meanwhile, Peter Parker has a lot on his plate, whilst not being Spiderman. Peter discovers the sudden disappearance of his father during childhood. How does he react hearing the shocking truth? I admire the close bonding between Peter and Aunt Mary, who took care of him as a child. Peter's relationship with Gwen is going through a difficult time. It shows special and romantic moments between the two characters.. As in previous instalment, Gwen's father dies. He was a noble policeman. Peter made a promise. He is haunted by the images. The story featuring Gwen forms a significant part to the plot.

Amazing Spiderman 2 picks up from the first instalment. There is plenty of character development, as we learn a lot about Peter Parker as an ordinary lad and as a super hero. The momentum and pace builds up much quicker than the first one. There is action and excitement, but not on a large scale. At the same time, there is emotional scenes throughout the film. The balances between character development and action is spot on. The different stories involving the super hero are cleverly delivered and makes the film interesting. The special effect are amazing and terrifying showing Spiderman moving from one building to another at a staggering speed and a stunning view of New York.

Garfield is an ideal replacement, to Tobey Maguire. I felt the predecessor was quite bland and lacking passion. Garfield adds passion and connects to the audience by delivering a solid performance. There is a plenty of emotion and depth in Spiderman's character. I could connect to the character. The dialogues are sophisticated, not too cheesy. Overall, I like the film. It is about 2 hours and half, with good reason. It definitely opens up for sequels.Ths super hero is based on a comic series following a sequence of events. Who is going to be the next villain? How does Spiderman's character develop following tragic news? This is the beauty of watching a super hero film, as you curiosity grows. Super hero films are reaching a new level in terms of story telling unlike mudance super hero films of the noughties and the nineties. There is a vast improvement.

I feel the film focues more on depth in story telling and character development. The action sequences are not on a large scale. The scenes appear in small bursts. The emphasis and tone is somehwhat different. The word sombre spring to mind. Overall, I would recommend the film if you are an avid fan of Spiderman and like a well crafted super hero film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb and magical, 18 April 2014
Disney promotes world class and family entertainment. Frozen proves the point. It is heart warming, charming, feel good, magical and superb piece of animation. It is one of the best modern Disney animations in the 21st century alongside Toy Story and Tangled. I love the storyline, the characters, enchanting and magical settings. It is superb and richly entertaining. Children would enjoy this, as they are Disney core audience. My little three years old niece loves it. At the same time adults would enjoy this. It conveys what Disney represents as one of the world leading animators and traditionally renowned for generations. The story telling, musicals enchanting settings and there is always a villian spoiling the party are distinctive features of what makes Disney so popular with a wide audience. These features shine in Frozen. If you are a fan of Disney, I would definitely reommend Frozen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gritty and realistic portrayal, 15 April 2014
I am a Soldier is a gritty and realistic potrayal of the SAS, one of the most difficult regiemes to join. The film gives an insight of the rigorous and gruelling selection candidates goes through. It is a test of endurance and character. Only a small number scrape through. Much of the film focus on the selection process, followed by the training for the ones who make it. It is not a film noted for action and excitement. If you are looking for action and excitement, I would look eleswhere. I would recommend Expendables as it is your typical popcorn movie..The film offers a different perspective about being a soldier. The mental and physical aspects are well touched upon. There are facts about SAS throughout the film. The film gives you an idea about life in the SAS. The direction and acting are professionally done and achieve a good impact through the camera work. I am Soldier is meant to be insightful piece of film making showing the harsh realities of being a SAS troop. It is something different to appreciate. The film is low budget and highly intense. If you are interested about what is like being elite troop, then I would recommend the film. It is a hollowing and realistic account. I have to applaud the film making.
