Draper 23036 900W 230V 75mm Belt Sander
Draper 23036 900W 230V 75mm Belt Sander
Price: £64.67

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for DIY but a weak point, 11 Jan. 2017
I've had two in this series. The weak spot in the machine is the motor bearing also carrying the belt cogwheel which tends to seize and then rotate in the plastic housing wearing it away. So a new bearing won't really fix it. Just getting this latest one. I'll be interested to see if they've done anything to beef up the weak point. However the last one lasted five years of moderate use so not complaining. Good idea to keep the busted one for spares assuming this series has largely the same parts. I used the front roller from the first one to fix the second.

The Man Who Knew: The Life & Times of Alan Greenspan

4.0 out of 5 stars Talk about consistent!, 8 Nov. 2016
Went to see Stephen Mallaby talk about the book at the LSE. He said that when Greenspan became chairman of the Fed reporters rushed round to his university to see what he'd put in his PhD thesis. Disappeared! It now turns out he said that the biggest thing for central bankers to prevent is asset price bubbles! He also gave talks for Ayn Rand in which he said that the formation of the Fed was a disaster.

The famous 'Greenspan put' was keep the bubble going for goodness sake!!!! Farcical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who is the drummer?, 13 Dec. 2015
Good album! Why is the drummer not listed on the sleeve? Does not sound like an electronic jigup on a keyboard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exposing the system's lies, 27 Aug. 2015

Really excellent and must read book. Economics can be argued so many ways that it's a gift to the ruling class who can always find court economists to bestow academic credibility on any devious scheme the former invent for their own purposes.

The entire current conventional Western package of economic policies is a giant lie pretending to be there to benefit the people when it's really there to create a wealth transfer to the rich. Immigration and free trade are simply cheap labour rackets which have nothing to do with improving economic efficiency is what PCR is saying. The EU is a power grab by the unelected.

One wonders how long before the penny drops with all those workers whose living standards have stagnated or declined while they are told how lucky they are. Graduates doing unskilled work while a tale about 'skills-shortages' is endlessly repeated, vast numbers of adults living with their parents who once would have bought a home, former factory workers fallen into poorly paid work if they can get any, and the whole contraption propped up with debt.

If you wish for a graphic illustration as to how the people are lied to, then the book is worth it just for the charts at the end showing how little the US economy had recovered several years after the crash when the manipulated official statistics issued are adjusted to reflect reality.

The Unknown Self
The Unknown Self

Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly remarkable man, 7 Aug. 2014
This review is from: The Unknown Self (Paperback)
Forty years ago, I was a patient and friend of George's for quite a few years.

He was a truly remarkable man with an extraordinary insight. It's only now he's gone that I realise how remarkable he was. I grieve for his loss. I'm not the only one. We take people like it for granted when they are there. It's only when they are not any more....

Major Recessions: Britain and the World 1920-1995
Major Recessions: Britain and the World 1920-1995
by J. C. R. Dow
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly great book on economics, 30 July 2014
The finest explanation of the Great Depression anywhere. Clear, concise and reasoned. Cuts a swathe through the endless contradictory accounts given elsewhere.

This book should be republished and Christopher Dow deserves to be far better known.

The Death of Money: The Coming Collapse of the International Monetary System
The Death of Money: The Coming Collapse of the International Monetary System
by James Rickards

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, 8 May 2014

Explains lots of things like the IMF in clear terms. Often it's difficult to get a clear explanation even from textbooks - in so far as they even cover issues like the IMF or the mechanics of a return to a Gold Standard.

It does seem to have an effect in shrinking the swelling with daily use and is very effective indeed in killing irritation. Presumably the former effect is the steroid component.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hinged version a great improvement but..., 8 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've knocked off two stars because the first one I was sent was the non-hinged version by mistake.

Also, as another poster mentioned, some while after cooking expires I often get a bleeping and an error message. This can be cancelled by turning on and off the power. Sending one back again is a palaver so I'll live with it.

The hinged version really is a great improvement as is the digital display. I don't see that the hinge is too weak. The plastic is normally a bit flexible. Also the round non stick cooking tray which fits the oven is a very helpful addition.
