4.0 out of 5 stars Not all Uwe Boll films are bad, 19 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Tunnel Rats [DVD] (DVD)
My only disappointment with this DVD is that it's cropped from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1 aspect ratio. But the film is very very good - and very violent. Uwe Boll gets a bad rap, but with the right material his films are well worth seeing. I found his best films to be SEED, RAMPAGE, DARFUR, BLOODRAYNE (uncut unrated version only), and TUNNEL RATS. TUNNEL RATS is an exploitation film, with graphic violence bordering on horror, but it's also tense, with satisfactory or better performances, and well worth seeing. Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0. Cropped 16x9 1.78:1 ratio.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid horror film, grainy Blu ray video, 19 April 2013

Saw this at the cinema and I thought it was really good. Gory and very different. Seeing it again confirms my first view - this is a well-made atmospheric horror film with some quality effects work. What surprised me somewhat was the heavy grain of this UK Blu-ray (but I don't have the US version to compare, so can't say whether all releases are like this or not). Oh well - it is uncut (contains the US unrated version) and it's nice to have on Blu ray.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a remake of Troma's film, 19 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Mother's Day [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
While the Troma film was goofy in it's wonderfully violent excess, this new version jettisons the broad comedy for a straight horror-thriller. And to well above-average effect. Performances are excellent, and the story is new (with just the basic theme from Troma's film). Atmospheric and tense - and Mother's domineering entrance really does propel the film along. I imported this from the UK because our local Australian-New Zealand release is cropped to 1.78:1. This is the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

A horror film I really enjoyed. Gorily violent and fast-moving. A completely satisfactory SAW/HOSTEL 'torture porn' knockoff. Watch that massive sledgehammer go!

Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter [DVD] [1973]

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent video presentation, 19 April 2013

I've never been too fond of this Hammer 'horror'. A mixture of swashbuckling and vampirism, there's no horror and some of it I found just silly. However, there's nothing wrong with this DVD presentation. Picture quality (16x9 anamorphic 1.66:1) is very good. Apparently some earlier pressings had issues, but later discs are corrected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure trash - pure fun!, 19 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
One of the last of the video nasties to have caught up on (I only watch them when I can get them uncut). And indeed this Nucleus Films DVD re-issue is the full uncensored version. And what a hoot it is. So outrageous and silly - but with great cheap gore and sleaze (and some of the gore is actually quite good). Widescreen 1.78:1 16x9 video. The wait for a proper quality release was worth it. Highly recommended for its entertainment value - just leave your brain at the door.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best presentation of Lucio Fulci's classic, 19 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
At last - being able to watch the film with the ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS screen title! But more than that, the video quality is excellent. This is absolutely my favourite Fulci film, and this is in fact my 2nd Blu-ray version after no less than 4 different DVD versions. One of Arrow's best presentations.

1.0 out of 5 stars Substandard Hammer thriller, 19 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nothing wrong with the DVD quality (video and audio) but I though the film sucked. Most of the Hammer thrillers are OK or pretty good (PARANOIAC, DIE! DIE! MY DARLING aka FANATIC in particular, among others) but this one was just a bore. I'd not be prepared to sit through it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun in 3D, 19 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
While not as good as SILENT HILL, I still enjoyed it. I only watched the 3D version, so not sure what I would have thought of it in 2D - but I think I've have enjoyed it just as much. The surreal elements are still great fun, only the story isn't as strong as the first film. Comes in card slip-case (not full length). DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 in 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Includes 2D on same disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great release, 19 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Outstanding presentation of perhaps Hammer's best film. Absolutely great to finally see that full disintegration sequence - and well worth the wait for a proper restoration into the feature. Superb colour - much prefer this to Warner's warmer colour presentation. Extremely well-paced at its brief 82-some minutes.
