3.0 out of 5 stars Not for me. .., 27 July 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Never listened too much to JJ Cale so am anthology seemed a good place to start..start and finish ... The odd good song which are those covered by other artists such as Clapton..Nice guitar playing ..but in the main best described as unmemorable..

3.0 out of 5 stars Expected better, 7 Mar. 2017

Slightly disapointing. .. though the bass and drums sound great.. We use to Know starts weakly before bursting into life though I am sure that was not the intention.. and why why why do we get extras that add lityle to the original album..

The Voyage of the Golden Handshake
The Voyage of the Golden Handshake
by Terry Waite
Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars poor storyline, it isn't funny, 4 Sept. 2016
Oh dear... As much as I respect Terry Waite this is poorly written, poor storyline, it isn't funny, it is boring and you are left wondering if it would have seen the light of day written by anybody else.. Sorry Terry..

3.0 out of 5 stars Too big a splash!, 22 Jun. 2016
The initial album back in the 80s, A Splash of Colour, was rather good, a bit flat production wise but all in all, rather good. This box set would have been far better as a straight C.D reissue. As it is it does not include tracks by The Doctor from the original, and as far as my ears can tell inferior versions of at least two original tracks. As for the "extra" tracks you really are pushing it to make it a 3 CD box set. It's definitely 1 too many and probably 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not that good, 1 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Now this is ok..but the outstanding track is the title track which is 5 stars but the rest of the album is ok. The guy has a great voice that varies between soul and country.
The album starts with the standout track and then fades.. Love letters, The Wanderer and hey baby follow and they are ok if you want more versions of those songs, if you are expecting tracks of the quality of You better move on you might be disappointed..

Bobby Charles
Bobby Charles
Price: £4.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine album, 29 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Bobby Charles (Audio CD)
Love this,, Country blues soul.. by the guy who wrote See you later Alligator along with a number of other well known songs from that era. but whos life seemed dogged by bad luck. He wrote all the songs on this album Small town talk was co written with Ric Danko and a co writer on Grow to Old is Fats Domino so that gives you some idea of the company he was able to keep.
This aint rock and roll its a gentle Country blues/soul album and its a treat unsure about whether to buy then check out Street People or I must be in a good place Now.

5.0 out of 5 stars great compilation, 29 Mar. 2015
This review is from: Rykodisc The Anthology (Audio CD)
I have had this for some time and what a great selection of music on it. Artists I was aware of and Artists that I knew very little about Those I knew little about, suddenly I was looking out CDs by Misfits and The Fire Theft..stuff that I would never have thought about listening to and know do. Interesting stuff by Morphine, Sugar, Golden Smog and Mission of Burma.. Alongside stuff that I already felt comfortable with.. All in all a great compilation that shows the spectrum of Rykodisc..

5.0 out of 5 stars stunning book.., 16 Mar. 2015
This review is from: Remembered for a While (Hardcover)
A wonderful "biography"..something to dip in and out of for years to come.. One error I noticed in the book is under the gigs section ,it states he played Leeds University Student Union on Feb 14th 1970.he didn't play there at all, on Feb 14th 1970 the Who played there and recorded Live at Leeds. A minor quibble and one they say will be addressed in any following editions of the book..
