3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm,not impressed.....so far, 3 Jun. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This has just arrived and it's a bit of a disappointment so far. The album sleeve lacks the glossy sheen of the original and has all of the appearance of having been knocked off in a back street warehouse on a cheap home copier. The photo montage inside looks particularly bad. My photo will show the original below the new edition, you should notice a lack of gloss and degradation in picture quality on the top ,especially around Leia's hair, but I apologise for the lack of quality in my iPad camera lens!
My 1977 copy came with 2 posters of the attack on the Death Star,a bit of a bonus lacking in the new ed.,however the composers notes are present and correct, the advertised digital download info however is not!
Audio quality not tested as yet,the gold vinyl has colour striations and dark areas and is not completely perfect. I checked my old coloured vinyl collection and the colour on them is pretty damn consistent in comparison to this copy of Star Wars, but perhaps I'm being a bit picky.
3 stars for effort, but could definitely do better ,Sony!

Nikon D40X Digital SLR Camera With 18-55mm Lens - Black (10.2MP)
Nikon D40X Digital SLR Camera With 18-55mm Lens - Black (10.2MP)

5.0 out of 5 stars OnY 10 MP? Why bother?, 15 May 2016
It's now 2016 and I bought this camera in 2007. Some reviewers here complain of circuit board faults and failures, however I have experienced NO issues with my D40X and it's still in regular use producing fine quality images . I have a camera with a 20MP rating that's a little over 10 months old, retails at over £350 and still doesn't shoot as well,or provide image quality that rivals this little Nikon. If,even now, what with it's age,you fancy a decent quality SLR,you couldn't go far wrong by buying one of these, provided it's been looked after,of course. Mine, despite a gushing and short review,is not for sale!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unfairly maligned really impressive game...., 26 Mar. 2016
Despite numerous complaints by others I found this AC to be easily on a par with previous games, and despite some issues that span the series ( usually those relating to character control, and let's face it,your character does what you instruct it to do....yes it gets "stuck" or won't let go of things when you want it to,but these are heat of the moment problems ,too many commands being sent from the keypad etc etc ) really enjoyable . Paris has quite clearly had a lot of attention paid to detail and even on my Xbox One it looks really impressive and I see no point in buying the PC version for the improved eye candy effects, especially when I bought this game for under a tenner on Gold !
Like all the AC games previously there is plenty to do and lots of impressive visuals. Some of the mechanics are different but you get used to them. It strikes me that the developers are damned for making changes and damned if they don't .The trick to buying games is not to get them straight away. Wait awhile and let the patches come through and you'll get a better experience. Apparently this game was rushed out,but I have suffered no ill effects having waited til this last week (20/03/16) to buy it,so if you haven't done already now is the time to do so!

1.0 out of 5 stars If you can't write your own movie material borrow someone else's....., 2 Feb. 2016
Some secret plans are hidden in a droid deposited on a desert planet, rescued from junk dealers, escaping in the Millenium Falcon, followed by some rebel prisoner getting rescued from a fortified space station, rebels get wind of this planet destroyer and decide to blow it up using Han Solo and his Wookie chum with magnetic grenades and some canny pilot flying into said space station in his X wing giving it the final heave ho,oh..and dad meets son on a metal bridge over a great chasm and cops a blast from the bad guy with the light sabre, falling into the abyss......all sounds vaguely familiar? You bet! An appalling remake of three films you may fondly remember ( Episodes 4,5 and 6 just in case you weren't there)poorly scripted, cliched, and calamitous with so many plot holes you'd have to be blind to miss them ( desert dwelling girl suddenly becomes familiar with how to start and fly a ship she says hasn't flown in years? Suddenly capable of sword fighting skills later on......please!)capped off with carbon copy bad guys (guy dressed in black with a metal mask, badly deformed head honcho running the whole deal) that lack any charisma, and a lead cast who just seem to be sure of a good pay cheque ( Harrison and Fisher you naughty tykes!),this is a YouTube fan made film surely? And don't get me started on the "talking light sabre" scene which carbon copies the Luke/Vader scene on Dagobah . This film MUST have been aimed at an audience with no cognitive ability or felt to be capable of discerning the real deal from the fake. George Lucas you should be ashamed.......

2.0 out of 5 stars Would be better with a 45 minute run time., 14 July 2015

Apparently made on a budget of $500,000 that alone should mark this film out as quite an achievement. The cinematography is good, the sets and outdoor scenes are good. However, even if we are supposed to suspend our disbelief when presented with a book or film at some point poor workmanship can jar the illusion. This happened very quickly for me when I was given the ISS with gravity, most obviously added by the film makers due to budget constraints. The ISS's Soyuz escape system is also strangely lacking.
The story is exceptionally thin,as may be your patience to watch this film in it's entirety . Many reviewers remark that this is a so called "art " movie,in other words it is an experience as opposed to a solid tale. I found it to be neither. It is dull, and like lots of modern art, pretentious and lacking. It isn't particularly original and copies ideas from many better movies .However everyone has and is entitled to their opinion: if in doubt by all means watch this film. I'm pleased to say I watched this through my Prime account and didn't have the displeasure of buying a hard copy.
Lots of people like to express their experience as a qualifying part of their reviews so I won't disappoint. I've been a lover of cinema since the mid 70's and have a dual major degree with honours in Literature and Philosophy. I've lost count of the number of good, bad and indifferent movies I've seen and bought, and I particularly like bad movies of the Ed Wood variety. This isn't a bad film,it's just longer than it needs to be and the end message comes after some really dull "man alone in space unravelling at the seams " scenes, and is hardly a revelation, merely a weak philosophical idea akin to the truisms people keep posting on Facebook as if they were revealing some "deep" incontrovertible truth.
It would be interesting to know how much space would be left on the ISS if it had,or could, carry enough food and water to last a man a six year span in space. Perhaps this is the hidden message of the film? Man's hidden desire to store vast quantities of food and drink in confined spaces leads him to a food nirvana that ultimately allows him to bend time and space allowing him to walk amongst the stars and hang around bus stops while dressed in a space suit! No ? Ah well, worth a try !

This film has high production values and often looks nice, action scenes are well done but....and it's a big but,Bruce Willis is given such weak dialogue that he hardly plays any part at all,he simply seems to be along for the ride(and no doubt a nice pay cheque),in more ways than one,a little bit like the viewer. However there is one redeeming feature. On her way to the helicopter on the rooftop the female character shows us a cracking pair of legs. No more Die Hard's thank you,Bruce has done his bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Less action and more thought...., 30 Mar. 2015

make for a sci-fi movie along the lines of 2001,Solaris(Tarkovsky),Contact and Moon. This is a movie designed to appeal to a particular audience and many will and have found it boring, ridiculous, etc etc and you yourself won't know until you see it. Like every film it has areas that people will pick holes in,you might pick them in all of it...this is in the nature of people and is a consequence of everything they do,it's just human nature .So if you base your movie buying on reading reviews, and in particular Amazon reviews, then what does the prospective buyer need to know about Interstellar?
Alluding to the other films I mentioned you may understand what you would be buying so expect more of the same, not a bad thing in my opinion;I like long films ( the 3 & 3/4 hour version of Dances with Wolves wasn't long enough for me,and the Taylor/Burton Cleopatra was criminally cut short) . There are ideas in Interstellar that while foreshortened or altered for cinematic audiences aren't hard to follow, this is a movie after all,and big money bosses need to know they will make some by altering film scripts,so be prepared for using a little of your grey matter, but not too much, this isn't a documentary after all!
Production values are high, this film has nothing coming close to Ed Wood one shot will do cinema, and special fx,actors, musicians et al all help to get the film bounding along. I won't mention plot etc as many others have done so already.
After watching Interstellar on the web on the IPad I promptly ordered the blu-ray,perhaps those annoying sound issues will be better heard on the 7.1.,and the picture ,well, bigger, but not as impressive as an IMAX viewing. Courtesy of the web and certain free movie sites I now try before I buy. Interstellar was well worth the £20 !

5.0 out of 5 stars The horrors of the shale gas industry unfolded......., 7 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A short tale of the fight against big industry, big govt and big money. With the shale gas/coal bed methane industry set to destroy this country this is a forewarning of things to come. Frightening that this is allowed to happen in a civilised country, even more frightening to know that it's happening now,in North America,Canada,Australia, and likely to become a reality in the UK within a few years. A depressing and cautionary tale! Want to know about the shale gas industry and government collusion? Read this book!

And for an in depth look at the oil,gas and government machines, truly frightening. I have read pro-shale gas/ coal bed methane/UCG material, they all tell the same story, but the actual practice of these industries is both reprehensible and mortifying, their actions go beyond mere greed and encompass a true hatred of the lands' and the peoples' of wherever they establish themselves, this is equally so for the people in power who proliferate and make the laws that support these industries. A well researched book written by one who cares.
