2.0 out of 5 stars Men's warm pants., 13 April 2017
The pants were for my 87 year old husband; he was disappointed that theybwere not as warm as he had expected, also the ribbed cuffs rode up his leg during wear. Sorry, we were not happy with the Items.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a story!, 13 April 2013

I have read hundreds of books, but this book is really something. A subject so different from anything I've ever read before, and so fascinating - and entertaining! Jojo Moyes writes in a way that most of us can relate to, and I was very impressed by her knowledge of the subject of paralysis, especially in relation to a quadraplegic. An excellent story, sensitively told.

3.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying story., 4 Oct. 2012

This review is from: Ruby (Paperback)
Ruby is a fairly lightweight story of a young woman who bears an illegitimate child but manages to steer her life in the right direction and end up as a successful business woman. I did feel that those people who helped her, i.e. the couple who took her in as an evacuee, were just a little too good to be true, and the baddies really were bad. Even so, it was an interesting enough read -- good to take on holiday.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something different., 4 Oct. 2012

This book was something different from anything I have ever read. Set in the south of America, Olivia, a poor white woman living among other poor whites and blacks, runs a grocery store with her father. The scene is set so well, one can visualise the countryside and almost hear the howling of the wolves. Olivia's friends, Junk and Love Alice, are touching in their loyalty to her, and help her through her difficult life. There is some violence, which is quite shocking, but the perpetrators get their come-uppance.
I was intrigued by the whole story, and really enjoyed it. I would recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars An unusual story., 4 Oct. 2012

This book is a kind of 'flashback' story, involving women of different generations of the same family. There is a great mystery involved which keeps one turning the pages. I found it fascinating to read of these women in their varyious times and circumstances, but I'm afraid I found the ending a little disappointing. Of course, books don't always have to end up 'happy ever after', but I would have preferred a more satisfying ending. Also, the changes from one era to another were slightly disconcerting. However, I enjoyed it on the whole.

This review is from: The Help (Paperback)
'The Help' is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read. It was almost unbelievable that black women were being treated in such a way as late as the sixties, and the two 'helps' were incredible women. It was great to see those snooty white women get their come uppance. I could read the book again and again.

The perfect CD of Christmas carols, beautifully sung. If you only want one recording of well-known carols, this is the one to get.

3.0 out of 5 stars Silver hair spray., 17 Jan. 2012

I was hoping this spray would give a festive silvery look to my grey hair, especially for Christmas. Although the spray worked well enough as an ordinary hair spray, the silvery look was pretty undetectable, no matter how much I shook the can. Disappointing.

This product is very difficult to use. I followed the instructions exactly, but still the item slipped and would not stay in place. I know other women have experienced the same difficultyl. Quite expensive, too.

Quite a good CD of Diana Krall, but I have all her other CDs and felt that 'From this moment on' was just not quite up there in the same category as before.
