Beres Hammond is probably the nearest one can get to a successor to Bob Marley. This 'Greatest Hits' collection shows what he is all about and is a great way to start a collection of his music. Nuff said!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most eclectic album in the world ever!!, 29 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Apart from occasional train noises and train lyrics there is little to connect the 25 tracks on this album. This is one of the things that makes it such a fun listen. If you don't cheat and read the sleeve you have absolutely no idea what is coming next! It could be Stax soul, reggae, country, skiffle, rock 'n' roll, ska or Peggy Lee with a large orchestra.

Most of the songs are from the 60s but tracks date from 1937 (Cliff Carlisle - Pan American Man) to 2012 (Daddy Long Legs - Death Train Blues). The album will appeal most to lovers of Ace Records vintage collections such as the London American year by year series. As always Ace deliver great sound and a fabulous booklet including pictures of railroad trains and posters.

If you like late 50s and pre Beatles 60s music and soul in particular you will find plenty to your taste. The track listing is superb and Dusty Springfield, Shangri-Las, Chuck Berry, James Brown seem to fit amazingly well with Caribbean tracks and artists I'd never heard before. A most enjoyable purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book that can save you a lot of money, 23 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the most useful travel book I have ever purchased. Written by 2 Americans for an American audience (but equally useful for anyone) it saved me a fortune on needless shore excursions on a recent Baltic cruise. At the first stop Zeebrugge it directed me to the local tram stop to Blankenberge and a one stop train journey from there to Bruges where the tram ticket I purchased covered all the buses from the station to the town centre. We just missed the hourly train but still had ample time in Bruges and a bonus 50 minute look round Blankenberge. We saved 2/3 the cost of the equivalent shore excursion and had a load more fun and adventure.

The experience warned us to check timetables on the internet at the next stop Warnemunde. We opted for a trip on the narrow gauge Molli steam railway rather than 12+ hours visiting Berlin. The book only mentions this in passing but told us enough about buying tickets for us to be on the 33 train to Rostock to transfer to the 06 Wismar bound train to Bad Doberan (8 Euros for all day ticket). The narrow gauge steam train leaves a few minutes after arrival (13.5 Euros round trip). The total cost of 21.50 Euros compared with £61 for the equivalent shore excursion.

At Tallinn we followed the book's self guided walking tour (after a short walk from the ship) and did the same thing in Copenhagen after establishing that we were docking at a nearby berth rather than a more distant one.

The book is not perfect. You can not buy an all day Helsinki tram pass (8 Euros) in the newspaper kiosk at the dock as indicated but you can buy one from the driver (which the book says you can't). We bought ours at a ticket machine. The book is spot on recommending the #9 tram into town and the #2/3 tram that follows a figure of 8 route past most of the big sights.

Similar guidance is available for all the other ports of call including St Petersburg where the option is getting a visa months in advance, booking local travel people privately (they get the visa) or shore excursions (visa also dealt with). We found the shore excursion to St Catherine's palace got us in before normal opening time with massive queues when we left.

The book sets out how to decide on the best option for your own needs at each port including the pros and cons of DIY v organised excursion. The great thing about the book is that it enables you to make an informed choice and contains the information you need if you decide to save a fortune by going it alone (with other readers of the book!)

Luggage X - 30" (77cm) Hard Sided Purple Polypropylene Trolley Suitcase - NEXT DAY DELIVERY*
Luggage X - 30" (77cm) Hard Sided Purple Polypropylene Trolley Suitcase - NEXT DAY DELIVERY*

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonably roomy, easily transportable case, 23 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As reported elsewhere the case does mark very easily but the colour is very useful for easy identification. The box the item came in was smaller than the dimensions claimed for the case which was not as big as expected. If luggage volume is important to you compare litre capacity. Wheels, handles and curved surfaces contribute quite a bit to the claimed size. The case has a zip fastening which seems to be a modern trend with a useful combination locking mechanism.

Handles on top and side make lifting into vehicles relatively easy. The 4 wheels make pushing the case around almost effortless especially as the extending handle can be adjusted to just the right height. The case can also be tilted and pulled on 2 wheels. The case survived its debut on and off a cruise ship but has yet to be tested by more aggressive aircraft baggage handlers. Happy with the 2 I bought so far.

52 Bridge Mistakes to Avoid

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the cover, 6 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
David Bird is a prolific writer yet manages to maintain a very high standard. I just wish there really are only 52 bridge mistakes to avoid! The book is well presented and very easy to read. Anyone mastering all the topics will become a very good player indeed. The book is divided into themes with a chapter for each. Everything is well explained. My only criticism is that when studying each hand what to be looking for has already been given away by the chapter heading.

This is not a serious criticism but I do like to test myself before reading bridge text. The 'mistakes' cover both bidding and play and I suspect only an expert would derive no value from the book. It represent a useful but cheap addition to any bridge library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect guide for day or short time visitors, 1 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For anyone calling at Tallinn on a cruise this is the perfect book to guide you to the things you would most like to see. With the port being near the town it is easy to avoid an expensive shore excursion. As with all DK books this is beautifully produced in colour on glossy paper. The size of the book makes it easy to carry. Alternatively, pull out maps enable you to travel even lighter.

As well as quality pictures the guide suggests possible walking itineraries, with recommended 'pit stops' for food and drink, leaving you with very little to plan or organise. For short stay visitors this book tells you everything you will want to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect compact guide for a short visit, 4 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you are visiting a place for a short time, in my case on a cruise, DK eyewitness travel guides are the perfect way to choose how to spend your limited time. The Top 10 format quickly focuses on the premier attractions with a description of each and beautiful photographs throughout. This book is particularly useful in choosing shore excursions which are the easiest way to avoid visa hassles.

If you are travelling freelance the book contains a number of useful walking tours which give a timeline of places to visit en route plus the all important watering holes for lunch and evening!

The compact size of the book plus maps in flaps in the front and back covers make it the perfect travelling companion.

5.0 out of 5 stars There are not many books on defence and this one is particularly good for intermediate players, 31 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are a number of books in the '25' bridge series covering both bidding and play. They are all extremely well written and cover each topic in detail before finishing with a quiz to check understanding. There are not many books on defence and this one is particularly good for intermediate players. Beginners may struggle a little while the more expert player may find the book too 'simple'. By looking at the quizzes first it is possible to gauge how much reading you need to do or whether you are already at the level of a good defender.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to the KAM range of wireless microphones, 31 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For anyone looking for a wireless multi microphone system that will work when microphone inputs are limited this system is ideal. The base unit effectively acts as a mixer for the 4 separate microphones. Sound output can be sent via a jack plug to a single microphone input socket. It is also possible to send output from each microphone to a different input via XLR cable.

While probably best suited as a system for speech it doesn't disgrace itself if used for karaoke or other singing. A nice feature is that 2 microphones can be charged via a USB socket while the other 2 are in use. The whole system needs very little setting up. Make sure the rechargeable batteries in the microphones are charged and attach the antennae to the base unit and you are ready to go!

Bridge Lessons: Duplicate Pairs Tactics
Bridge Lessons: Duplicate Pairs Tactics

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to the pairs form of bridge, 31 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Andrew Robson is the Times bridge correspondent and always presents bridge hands in a very clear way whether aimed at beginners or expert bridge players. The pairs form of the game is unusual in that your opponents at the bridge table are not your true opponents. Competition comes from all the other pairs playing the same East-West or North-South cards.

This is very different from rubber or team of four play. Most bridge books concentrate on bidding or play of the cards. This book, with a series of illustrative deals, explains the bidding and tactics needed to be a successful pairs player. It is almost a booklet rather than a book but the content is well explained and covers a surprisingly wide range of thought adjustments needed for this form of the game. If you play pairs regularly your scores will improve immediately after studying this book. What are you waiting for?!!
