Having not read the first book but watched the movie this was nothing like I'd expected. I much preferred the character as portrayed by Tom Hanks than the one the author describes.
Hank' character was a innocent and gentle soul, the book doesn't really offer much character description. Needless to say none of the characters are as I would have expected. Here Gump is a 6'6" giant who swears and fights with people
The writing style is also very basic and not at all suited to such a potentially good storyline. Its actually very poor, basically, then I did this, then I did this ... you get no idea of any timeline to the story. And whereas it all blends seamlessly in the movie as he goes through life, here its difficult to understand whats going on.
I've given this 3 stars but that's really being generous.

War and Peace: My Story
War and Peace: My Story
by Ricky Hatton
Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars Revealing but is it the full story?, 8 Nov. 2015

Ricky's story covering his early life and career up until after his retirement and attempted comeback.
Basically the tale of how he achieved success then was unable to cope when his career took a nosedive. It still seems that he's not really in a good place and is still dealing with the baggage from his private life. I guess there are downsides to being a successful sportsman namely learning to accept when its over, and cope with life without the highs of sporting success.
Quite honest and revealing, but you get the feeling he's not quite telling you 100% of the story. I'd like to give it 3.5 out of 5.

If you've bought this book there's a good chance its because you've read her sister Amy's autobiographical tales 'The Sunset strip diaries' and 'Confetti covered quicksand'. This book is similar but not quite as enjoyable IMO.
That's quite suprising because if anything Becky's life was just as crazy as her sisters yet the writing itself seems to lack the same degree of interest. Where Amy's story was told over two fairly lengthy books, Becky's seems to just be summerized highlights. I managed to read the whole book in just one evening.
The story is fairly similar, young girl goes off the rails when her parents divorce and her homelife breaks down. She almost knowingly makes some bad choices, dating bad guys and getting hooked on drugs. Eventually she manages to grow out of the self destructiveness.
I would recommend that young girls read this book or anyone stuck in her position and needing encouragement or inspiration to change for the better, but overall the whole thing felt kind of rushed, and not as thoughtfully written as her sisters books.

This book certainly lives up to its title. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who's had a crazier life than this. If someone wrote this as a movie it would be judged too unrealistic. I read the whole book in one evening, its less than 300 pages and the font is large like in a childrens book. My lasting impression of it is its quite sad that people are willing to bring children into the kind of enviroment that Johnny was born into. And what some people see as raising them would otherwise be known as abuse.
Its no wonder Johnny was able to succeed in the brutal world of boxing, compared to the rest of his harsh life fighting in the ring would have seemed easy. Despite his boxing success its still overall a sad tale born out of tragedy and poverty. Johnny knew no different way of living but as he said himself, am I lucky or unlucky?

Eubank: The Autobiography
Eubank: The Autobiography
by Chris Eubank
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Love him or hate him this book will show you ..., 28 Mar. 2015

A very thoughtful and interesting book. I've read a few boxing autobiographies (Hatton, De La Hoya, Tapia) and this one is clearly unique. I'd say its one of the better boxing autobiographies.
Love him or hate him this book will show you the real Chris Eubank. I'd always thought that his persona was merely an act or a form of attention seeking, and that he was just trying to be something he was not. Now I realise that is not the case (or not entirely).
After reading this book I have increased respect for Eubank, he may not be the true genius or have achieved the level of greatness he'd clearly like but, actually he has a fair degree of wisdom and is definitely a man with principles, conviction and integrity.
This book offers far more than just a run down of his life story. And it refreshing that for a man with such an egotistical image he is actually very humble about his achievements especially being honest about how close many of his fights were and how hard the victories were.
I'm sure to some degree he may have some form of OCD of even a mild psychological condition, but this may have been what enabled him to succeed by applying his obsessively high standards to his fight preparations.
