I was fortunate to see Dan, many, many years ago at a tiny Pub near Rottingdean (The Dew Drop" Inn); He was beginning , even then to move away from out and out Bluegrass. As he has said in the past, "I've got a Black Belt in Bluegrass guitar".Hew was an extremely high class act, way back then.

I had the album originally, and have just now ordered the tracks on CD.

To MY mind, he far surpasses the efforts of Tony Rice.

This CD and "Wayfarer" have now been
melded into one :- the 2010 CD "A Celtic Pilgrimage".
This offers 12 tracks from the two CD's, a bewitching combination of melodies, played by a Virtuoso guitarist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting !!, 16 Dec. 2010
I had never heard of John Doan until I bought the DVD "Primal Twang";Being an amateur guitarist, I had of course heard and indeed bought CD's of Michael Hedges and was therefor aware of "Harp-Guitar",but I was taken aback by the beauty of "Farewell".
I have to say, that for anyone with Celtic roots (ie.Blood), there is an awful lot to like about this selection of self-penned tunes.
The musicianship is first class and the melodies "steal your heart" (Thank you Derrol Adams !)
Buy, enjoy and luxuriate in the talent of John Doan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Abysmal !, 2 Mar. 2010
This review is from: Cardinology (Audio CD)
Well, what a disappointment.I really should have taken more notice of the fact that this was the last offering on a specific contract, because it smacks of a "Contract-filling" effort !!

I can find very little that comes anywhere near the quality of any of the tracks on "Gold", which remains my favourite of all the Ryan Adams recordings.

Enough said - Don't buy it !!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!!, 16 Feb. 2009

I was hoping for a more in depth programme, with SOME close -ups of fretting and plucking techniques.

Overall, I was very disappointed with the quality, quantity and content of this DVD

4.0 out of 5 stars The flying fingers of Fleck, 2 Feb. 2008

Nice to see that Bela has expanded his classical repertoire from the single piece that he used to play on stage (and on his DVD).
Having been a fan of his for many years and having been fortunate enough to catch him "Live" at The Mean Fiddler" in Harlesden a few years ago, I am delighted to see him go from strength to strength.
He has also moved The Banjo from what was perceived by many to be an instrument of derision to a thing of considerable beauty!

Let's face it, Bela could play anything, if he set his mind to it.His ability and talent seem boundless.

I look forward with anticipation to see where he decides to go from here.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The magic of Martin", 21 Sept. 2007

Yet again Martin,"The Maestro" Simpson shows us mear mortal guitarists how to combine light and shade. Many accoustic guitar CD's whilst good technically, can leave you cold.
Everything that Martin plays comes from the heart and is of unimpeachable quality.
I have been a fan for many, many years and he continues to go from strength to strength.
In a word - "Mighty"
