5.0 out of 5 stars Much easier to do than you might think!, 3 Jan. 2012
What an excellent little book! I have successfully made (on first attempt, no less) a fondant hippo, panda and monkey, all thanks to the step-by-step photos and instructions which are clearly labelled and simple to follow.

As long as you have a set of modelling tools (the white and yellow ones are very cheap to buy) and a heart-shaped cutter, the rest is pretty straight-forward. Soon you'll be the envy of all your friends!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow and helpful, 10 Nov. 2011
A thorough guide to starting your own cake business, this is a good reference book. Some of the suggestions may be ones you've already thought of, but Kathy Moore is clearly covering all bases just in case. There are some handy tips (especially when it comes to the law regarding the handling and sale of items such as cream) and I'm very glad I bought it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great film!, 10 Nov. 2011

The Major and the Minor is a treasure of a film that I would never have seen had it not been for the classic line (advertised on a film quotation site):

"Why don't you slip out of that wet coat and into a dry martini?"

Ginger Rogers is brilliant as the woman disguised as a young girl in a ruse to travel half-fare on the train and, as so often happens with one lie, many are doomed to follow as she tries to cover her tracks.

Bachelor Mother is not so good but still has its moments, especially during the festive season.

Salter Disc Electronic Digital Kitchen Scale - Black
Salter Disc Electronic Digital Kitchen Scale - Black

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and precise!, 8 Nov. 2011
This weighing scale is excellent. It's simple to use and is extremely precise. I particularly like the button that resets the weight to zero - very handy when measuring ingredients into a bowl to make a cake as it saves on using conventional weighing scales or American-style cups.

The only drawback is that when weighing quite a bulky or cumbersome package, you can't see the screen and when you move the package back so you can see the screen, the weight displayed is less than the weight of the package. In other words, this is good for small items or ones with a stand as they won't interfere with your ability to see the screen. However, if you try to weigh a large A4 parcel so you know what postage to put on, you'll have to guess how much extra the weight is as placing the package so it's not central means the scales show a lighter weight than the actual weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing cakes!, 1 Oct. 2011
I am stunned by this book: it contains recipes that will blow your mind! I am not a vegan but I have a number of friends who can't tolerate dairy or eggs so I thought I'd try out some vegan recipes. It really is no exaggeration when they claim your friends will not know the cakes don't contain eggs. I've never come across recipes like this before - my experience of vegan cakes is that they are usually dry or heavy and therefore haven't ever tasted very good.

There are certain things you'll need to do before trying out the recipes: read the book thoroughly and obey their rules! If the book tells you to use a particular product then don't make a substitution. The authors know exactly what they're doing so when they ask for soya yogurt, real vanilla extract or cider vinegar in a recipe, that's exactly what you need to put in for a delicious cake. I haven't yet tried out the icings but I'm confident they'll taste just as good as the book claims.

Another bonus to making these cakes is that most of the ingredients can be kept a lot longer than "normal" cake recipes as you aren't using butter or eggs.

Enjoy baking!
