5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 23 Sept. 2017
What a great piece of kit! For over a year I had been dithering about giving one of these a go after reading so many rave reviews. Recently finally i bought one second hand from ebay. When it arrived I had cables on the ready and could not get it unpacked fast enough. What an absolute delight. Connected to a K2 amp (using the tape inputs) with chord cables and using a pair of AKG 702's this amplifier has brought extra layers of detail, space and energy to my music collection (mostly CD's played on an Audiolab 8200 CD player).

The extra detail in the music, the space around them and the extra scale in the presentation is immediately obvious and very enjoyable. I now need to play my entire music collection again to hear what I have up until now obviously been missing. Is the amp better than using the headphone out on the Kandy K2? Oh yes! Whilst the one fitted to the K2 is a pretty decent one the Novo raises the music bar 5 or 6 notches at least. Heartily recommended.

This is one of those films that promises a lot but which for the most part fails to deliver. For openers the story (which is complicated and has lots of twists and turns) simply fails to deliver on nearly every level - it has more mistakes and contradictions than a Richard Dawkins theory (in other words a lot!). The more you look into it the less makes sense it makes (again just like Dawkins...). Aliens have been destroying Earth's water for over 50 years and at best only two weeks worth remains (about 0.01 per cent at best) - without water and water vapour the Earth would long since have dried up and turned into a superheated dust bowl but here clouds and rain remain and the environment actually looks very, very cold.

Humanity is all but wiped out yet Morgan Freeman could hardly seem more relaxed about it all. Is it a game? Is he a psychopath?

Thankfully what could have been simply awful is rescued by some great acting by the two female leads, some decent special effects (except for the landmarks which do not work at all) and a gripping score that really adds to the tension during the various ups and downs of the story. For his part Cruise is not great but gives a fair performance - in action sequences he gives his best but in intimate scenes he is simply unconvincing (as always) and about 10 to 15 years too old. Ethan Hawk comes to mind as a better choice all round for example.

The saving point of the film is the convincing acting by the two female leads played by Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough who were both unknown to me before this. They are both excellent on every level.

Oddly the film feels like it was constructed around a character or individual rather than feeling that this person (Tom's repairman) is instead embedded into a story. This is probably why it does not work at the story is continually being manipulated and twisted around Cruise's character to keep to some idea or intent. It would have worked much better with a simpler consistent story that followed logically.

I could not believe the tiny size of the craft once unpacked. A shame more effort was not put into the space ships and less into the packaging. Poor value and too small to justify buying any further expansions. The stands are quite tidy but dwarf the ships mounted on them. Shame really.

Excellent light - gives out more light than the pictures would suggest. Solid construction and easy to install. Recommended. Suited our requirements perfectly and will likely buy another.

This CD is a soundtrack of the film and as such offers decent value for money. There are twenty-one tracks taking you through the film and covering the major highs and lows.

This is a catchy film with some nice ideas, inventive photography and a proper story. The idea that reality is not to be taken for granted is interesting and the plot has some unexpected twists and turns. However there are some confusing, possibly inconsistent elements thrown up and we never really get behind Harry's motive for helping Matt. The leads are excellent in terms of their roles but there is no on screen chemistry in fact the relationship between them feels 'flat'.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not romantic or a comedy!, 1 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After i watched this one evening on DVD i had to follow it with a 'real' comedy to cheer myself up! This is not a comedy, neither is it romantic. There is no tangible chemistry between the leads, the film tries to be too 'clever' too 'grown up'. The gags are forced and the result feels somehow empty. And that is a shame because the leads are rather good. I would not recommend watching this if you need 'cheering up'.

Hi. At the time of writing this album is only available as a download. Is that a problem? Only that there is space reserved in my collection of CD's! This is a suprisingly enjoyable 'sensible' film and the enjoyment comes at least in part to the excellent score. The tracks echo the experiences of the tourists on the boat - start out simply sitting back and soaking up the experience but then when all goes awry and then from bad to worse the tracks mirror the building sense of doom.

I have at the moment downloaded just a few of the more individual tracks and am enjoying those. Not sensational by any means but a thoughtful pleaseant journey nonetheless. Recommended.

This is an excellent album to accompany an excellent film. The first time or two i saw the film i felt the score was 'repetitive' and dull. By the third viewing i was getting hooked, and by the fifth i had decided to buy the album...I have not a similar response to a soundtrack since the Lord of the Rings trilogy was released.

There is a good assortment of music on this album that touches base with all the key parts of the film. Far from 'repetitive'the tracks really relate well to the continual changes in the film. I particularly enjoy track 9 that brings with it memories of 'On her majesty's secret service' with George Lazenby. Excellent & thoroughly entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive, endearing & disturbing adventure!, 27 Sept. 2011

First i realise this is adding to the already hundreds of reviews, but hey. If the mark of a great film is one you go back and watch over and over again and still come away with something new each time then this is a great film.

There is so much to think about, so much to enjoy, so much to question. The film satisfies on so many levels. I love that i can see influences from other great films such as the better James Bond films, Mission Impossible and The Matrix.

The first time i watched it i found the score repetitive and boring. By the fourth watch i was thoroughly enjoying the way it adds and builds with the story. By the sixth i had bought the score! (It is that kind of film).

The performances are first rate, the story pulls you in, the action is superb and the film builds beautifully from start to finish. Terrific.
