5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book, 24 April 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Not For Parents Europe: Everything you ever wanted to know – this is one of several books in Lonely Planets “Not for Parents” series that I’ve gotten for my young daughters. They love these books as they are fun, yet full of interesting facts about history, food, customs, geography, culture, etc. These great colourful books encourage learning and discovery while still being tremendous fun. As a family we love this book – although I’m not meant to read it as I’m the parent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Small but practical, 24 April 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The SanDisk SDDD-032G-G46 32 GB Ultra Dual USB Drive is a compact but very useful device. It can be used as a normal USB drive for storing for extracting files from a PC or tablet, but the real benefit is that it also has a micro USB connector. This allows it to also connect to most android smart phones or smaller tablets allowing for the easy transfer of data between devices. I have found this to be a efficient method of moving files (photos, video .mobi book files, etc) between my Asus tablet and HTC. Also very practical for backing up files from either device when travelling. Easy to use and very useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lyrical and troubling tale, 26 Mar. 2014
This review is from: The Investigation (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Investigation by Jung-myung Lee - this is a lyrical and troubling and unusual story. It is set in Fukuoka Prison, 1944, world war 2 is still raging and our sympathies shouldn't normally sit with a Japanese, yet the protagonist Watanabe is likeable sympathetic character - a young conscript who must investigate the murder of a infamous prison guard. The prison mainly houses political prisoners and Koreans - are they criminals, saints or poets? Against this troubled background, Watanabe must seek the truth and in doing so find himself. An ambitious and charming novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty, 26 Mar. 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Tacwise A11 (type 140) Hammer Tacker is a heavy duty tool for tacking jobs. Extremely robust construction, easy to load and tactile grip. It's extremely weighty and could cause some real damage in the wrong hands. As a tool, it is useful and does the job required. It takes a bit of practice to get used to and a fair bit of whack to operate but once you get used to it is very straightforward. A useful and fairly stylish addition to ones toolbox.

The Forbidden Kingdom (Pushkin Collection)
The Forbidden Kingdom (Pushkin Collection)
by Paul Vincent
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Complex, 20 Feb. 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Forbidden Kingdom by Jan Jacob Slauerhoff. I bought this book as I found the information about the author fascinating – an old age tale of “running away to sea” to travel the world. I was a little intrepid about reading an novel written so long ago and in an experimental format. The prologue was fascinating in setting the scene of the founding of Macau, the novel then jumps back between intertwined characters, one in the sixteenth century and the other in the twentieth. At times this could be confusing & disjointed but on the whole was cleverly done (it seemed to have some style similarities with more contemporary writers such as David Mitchell’s “Cloud Atlas”). This is a complex, oft rewarding though sometimes difficult & confusing novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 20 Feb. 2014

This review is from: Empire (Hardcover)
Jon Tonks - Empire. This collection of photographs from the last remaining outposts of the British Empire (St. Helena, The Falklands, Tristan da Cunha and Ascension) are amazingly evocative in their simplicity. The stories of the places and particularly the inhabitants of these islands were fascinating. Mr. Tonks was incredibly fortunate to visit these last outposts and has created a wonderful collection of images.

Sporting Lodges - Sanctuaries, Havens and Retreats
Sporting Lodges - Sanctuaries, Havens and Retreats
by Jeremy J.C. Hobson
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £25.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing, 20 Feb. 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Sporting Lodges - Sanctuaries, Havens and Retreats By: Jeremy J.C. Hobson, David S. D. JonesThis is an intriguing book that looks at the history of Hunting Lodges. Chapters cover subjects like Location, Journeying to & life at the Lodge, Cooking, Customs & Traditions, etc. Predominantly covering the UK experience with regional examples it does also briefly look at Lodges around the world. The book is well illustrated with photographs and historical ephemera. The history is interesting and informative if at times a little underwhelming in its conciseness. The brevity of some sections is a shame as you want to know more, but this will always be a struggle for a book that is trying to include so many aspects of quite a broad subject. I bought this book as I spent part of my childhood living in a former hunting lodge in the Yorkshire Dales. I enjoyed this book.

The Art of Influence: Asian Propaganda
The Art of Influence: Asian Propaganda
by Mary Ginsberg
Edition: Paperback
Price: £19.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Not all propaganda is revolutionary art, 30 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Not all propaganda is revolutionary art and not all revolutionary art is propaganda (nor is it necessarily artistic . This is the key message I got from reading THE ART OF INFLUENCE: ASIAN PROPAGANDA by Mary Ginsberg. This book is a companion to the exhibition of the same name at the British Museum which I unfortunately didn't have an opportunity to see. The book has examples of propaganda (not all artistic) and revolutionary art from India, China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, etc. predominantly during the 20th Century. This book is full of colourful examples of these "artworks" alongside detailed analysis and exploration of various pan-Asian themes covering both war and peace. A rather interesting book, that is both informative and enjoyable to browse.

Amazing Spaces by George Clarke. This companion book to the 1st and 2nd series of the channel 4 show "Amazing Spaces", is a must have for any fan or for anyone looking for their own amazing space inspiration. This book captures the modern zeitgeist for escapism, be that creating our own private space to temporarily escape from the rat-race or just to dream of doing so. The book details many of the projects from the two series as well as discussing the fundamentals of planning and building your own dream project. Greatly inspiring for both the dreamer and the doer - which are you?

5.0 out of 5 stars Very special, 30 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The little Giraffe Chenille Baby blanket is really special. While somewhat pricey, it is worth it for a extra special blanket for a treasured love one. These blankets are amazingly soft and snugly. Even after washing the delicate softness remains. The blankets are well made, strong, delicately soft and have delightfully silky edges. A great gift for a young baby and a treat for the parents.
