Sad and slow, 18 Dec. 2013
It is a beautiful story but sometimes beauty comes with sadness or pain and this is what I felt watching this movie.
Even if Bill is very enthusiastic and happy, the way his mono obsession takes him to leave in such bad conditions - cupboard to live in, sandwich for lunch and dinner, cycling in the cold - makes him a no life person and the story heavy. He didn't develop anything else for himself than a repetitive skill - although absolutely brilliant, no one would ever deny this - but no friendship, no love life, no living environment, no care.
Also the pace of the movie was just slow for me, perhaps it's reflecting his long wait in the street to get a good shot or because of his age but it could break up a little and have time lapses here and there.
