Depeche Mode's third album and first album with Alan Wilder as a full time member, replacing Vince Clarke who was now writing hits with Alison Moyet, forming new synth band,Yazoo. I remember seeing the striking album cover in WHSmiths after having previously bought the 'A Broken
Frame' album ... That album sleeve showed a Russian Peasant girl working in a corn field ... This one now had a physical muscular guy with a sledge hammer on top of a mountain with a blue sky background .....The theme of this album was Construction and industrial sounds geneerated
by songwriter Martin Gore .. The lead single, 'Everything Counts' was a great track indicating capitalistic greed and business and targeting Margaret Thatcher's government in 1983 Britain... Other great tracks here include Pipeline, Two Minute Warning ... An apocalyptic theme and 'The Landscape is Changing' .... An Environmental theme focussing on everyday scientific reports of Global Warming and the Greenhouse Effect that were speculated upon far too often suggesting that mankind was ruining the planet with the constant exploitation of using fossil fuels for energy and power benefits ... Martin Gore had captured some great new technical industrial synthesizer sounds for this album ... This album I feel proved to
be a major turning point in their recording career and was a transitional album leading to the more darker albums that would follow such has Black Celebration ... A great album for hardcore DM fans like me ... Highly recommended !

5.0 out of 5 stars Some great sound, thanks to Martin Gore., 30 April 2015

Good to get this on 180g heavy weight remastered vinyl for the first time ... I've ordered 5 other Depeche Mode albums on the same format previously and wasn't disappointed with the sound quality ... Hoping to order their 1983 album, 'Construction a Time Again' soon .... Some good tracks on this album including a song that I would identify as being a typical LGBT anthem .... The song in question is 'People are People' suggesting that people are all equal and shouldn't be judged with difference .... The last track on the album is a bit more thought provoking... The song in question here is 'Blasphemous Rumours' .... Does God have a sense of humour then ? May we ask ... Great lyrics from the talented mind of Martin Gore ... This being his third album as chief songwriter since Vince Clarke abandoned ship on the band's 1981 album, 'Speak & Spell' .... The albums that were to follow Some a Great Reward,
released in 1984 were to become much more darker in both mood and sound !!

I like the earlier Spandau Ballet songs when they were a cult New Romantic band ..... Think they were a bit more glossy and teen
orientated with the later songs such has True and Gold ... The record label however, Reformation summed up what they were all about as a band musically ... Reforming their musical styles from synth to jazz-funk to soul as we progress from their debut,
To Cut A Long Story Short to Chant No.1 and then through to True and Only When You Leave.

Was a fan of Simple Minds up to their 1991 Real Life album but went off them after that album ... There were a few changes in the line up and their style and brand of stadium rock anthems were beginning to decline for me .... I didn.t buy another of their albums
after 1998's Neopolis album which was disappointing .... Managed to hear a few tracks from this new album from a friend and decided I would experiment in listening to their sound once more.... I was impressed with some of the tracks on this new album
and thought it was a change in direction for them musically.

Good tracks from a band that were just breaking through commercially .... It wasn't until their 1982 album, New Gold Dream
81/82/83/84 that the band became recognizable commercially in terms of getting in the charts ... This was a good predecessor
for what was to come in the following years !

3.0 out of 5 stars Mulholland Drive ... Atmospheric, dark film !, 9 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Mulholland Drive [DVD] (DVD)
Strange film .... Caught it on the horror channel about a month ago ... Naomi
Watts gives a good performance here as
well as performing in some lesbian scenes in order to bring in a sexual interest to the viewer .... It's a mixed up
film that involves two Hollywood actresses, Rita and Betty.
Rita was involved initially in a car crash accident at a place she recalls was Mulholland Drive where it occurred ...
For most of the film they are trying to chase the whereabouts of this place in order to investigate Rita's identity which she couldn't recall because of memory loss and imsomnia attributed to the car accident...they both get caught up in their own fantasies and delusions and at the
climax of the film Betty (Naomi Watts)
becomes jealous of Rita and experiences
hallucinations and hysteria which lead to
her suicidally shooting herself !
.. Great film with awesome music score making the film very enjoyable and atmospheric. Directed by David Lynch.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's Dooley time !!!, 9 Mar. 2014

Wanted to collect some late 70's music nostalgia ... Bought all the Blondie, ABBA, Roxy Music vinyl and rarities back then but missed out on The Dooleys, Brotherhood of Man etc.. They're not
really my cup of tea but I enjoy listening
to their tunes like Wanted, The Chosen Few and Honey I'm Lost which I have seen recently performed on Top of the Pops 1979 alongside acts like Lena Lovich performing Lucky Number ...
Been watching some clips of them on
U-Tube as well ... What a year in pop 1979 was ....Disco was fading, Punk and
New Wave were progressing and then came the birth of Gary Numan with all his
synth pop allies ... Electro pop and New
Romanticism were to become the benchmark of early 80's Britain and this
is the era I'm most find of with acts like
Human League, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode
and Ultravox coming onto our TV
screens ! ... Dooleys only get a two star rating here as they clearly do not match
the music of my synthpop icons which I
admire with great passion !

5.0 out of 5 stars Rage - Carol Decker belts out her songs with Heart and Soul, 8 Oct. 2013
This review is from: Rage (Audio CD)
This album was the follow up to the hugely successful 1987 Bridge of Spies album... It contains three great singles
'Secret Garden', 'Only the Lonely' and 'Road to Our Dream', which surprisingly didn't make the Top 40 .....
I bought this album on tape when I was a skint Chemistry student living in Nottingham ... Listening to this album again
on a superior CD copy now helps me to remember those hard times .... Carol Decker really belts out the vocals here with such clout .... I think this album is great to listen to if you fancy a big slanging match with someone who's recently upset you
.... Rage is certainly an appropriate album title .... Shame I missed them recently on their T'Pau 25 tour ...
Great album, definitely worth checking out !
