5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most uniquely epic film experiences you can ever treat yourself to. Four hours you'll never forget., 15 Jun. 2017

I haven't seen many of Sion Sono's movies, but if they're all like this one - boy do I want to go and check them all out. Prepare for four hours of insane, ridiculously unique filmmaking and strap in for a wild ride.

All three main characters in this are unforgettable and absolutely brilliantly played - by the end of the film you'll feel like you've got to know them better than your own family and friends. The connection the film builds between them through its unique pacing, storytelling and montage techniques (the film titles don't hit until an hour in!) are simply masterful - you won't see anything else like it outside of weird, avant garde post-modern novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant, vital piece of Japanese independent film-making from a fantastic director, 15 Jun. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Momoko Ando is a real leading light as far as Japanese directors go right now, and this is a brilliant, vital bit of independent film-making that tells a neat, self-contained story - making the most of its two fantastic leading actresses. Also, Hikari Mitsushima - do you need any other reason to watch?

Also, the lengthy Q&A session with Momoko Ando included on this set is a real plus - and a great insight into the film.

Hopefully they'll release her other film 0.5mm over here too because it's an absolute masterpiece that deserves to be seen by way more people

5.0 out of 5 stars A true masterpiece, 19 May 2017
A real must watch of 90s anime with one of the most divine soundtracks in the media. Berserk is the perfect combo of incredibly memorable characters, striking art and some of the most haunting, gruesome imagery in TV anime. Ignore the review that doesn't understand how wide-screen works - this blu ray captures the show on crisp clarity in the way it's designed to be seen. You won't regret buying this beautiful set.

3.0 out of 5 stars A pause for breath as the material covered in the anime wraps up, 14 Feb. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the volume that overtakes where the anime gets up to - but I have to admit personally I thought this was largely pretty so-so; there's an explicit content tag on the cover, but really this volume is pretty tame, especially compared to other harem series like this. Still, it's the cover art that sells this - and hopefully it picks up again in later volumes as I absolutely loved the anime version

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Vol. 22: The Labyrinth of Magic
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Vol. 22: The Labyrinth of Magic
Price: £4.74

5.0 out of 5 stars Things just get bigger and better, 14 Feb. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As the second vol. of material that hasn't been animated yet, this volume deftly handles a mix of hefty politics and world-building with some snippets of Ohtaka's always-charming comedy (some choice scenes between Alibaba and Kogyoku) - the artwork reaches brilliantly Dali-esque surrealism as we see the origins of the world depicted in shocking detail. The scale of Magi has never been as vast and epic as it is here, but it's refreshing to see that even then, it still retains its lovably, goofy charm.

This review is from: Happiness Vol. 3 (Kindle Edition)
Fans of the Monogatari series and Tokyo Ghoul owe it to themselves to read this. Not quite as powerful as the last volume, but still a stylish example of a real master at work. Fantastic characters, page-turner pacing - all done up in classic Oshimi style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin, 10 Feb. 2017

It really is super cute - breezily well drawn and with a cheeky style that's easy to love. Body swap style comedy with a touch of real heart. If you like school hi jinks and love triangles then this manga is for you for sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shifting alliances, 7 Jan. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The end of the second big story arc and the start of the third. While it lacks some of the finesse and raw drama of the earlier volumes, it makes up for it with big sweeping plot developments and twists, setting things up for a very different tone for the next chunk of the story

4.0 out of 5 stars A momentary respite, 4 Jan. 2017

Not as strong as some of the previous volumes but this does do a good job of filling in some of the areas Root A covers in unsatisfactory detail. One for completionists - the endgame is near now!
