5.0 out of 5 stars excellent album great to have it on cd finally, 26 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Please Mind Your Head (Audio CD)
I must disagree with the other reviewer I bought this on vinyl years ago and I bought this cd version of the album and I welcome this cd version which I think is exceptionally good and well worth buying for anyone wanting to complete their String Driven Thing cd collection. Graham Smit's violin playing is outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing, 21 Nov. 2013
A fantastic Fall gig from San Fransisco reproduced on heavyweight vinyl and icludes the full gig spread over two LPs and then some of the gig on a free cd in with vinyls 10 out of 16 tracks I think on the free cd. Great pictures in the gatefold of Mark on this particular American tour - got some great reviews on other websites too

Fantastc gatefold sleeve double LP on gorgeous red vinyl. This is classic Tractor and The Way We Live 70s material at its best. Such a varied range of styles amongst the tracks but a supeb collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars very poor, 19 Nov. 2013
Avoid this cd its just not anything like The Way We Live or Tractor Can't believe this is the same two musicians who created the Way We Live A Candle for Judith and Tractorand all those other brilliant cds and vinyl lps It just sounds like Jim Milne and a drum machine. I see there is already a used one for sale on here and it's just come out that says it all. what has happened to all the brilliant acoustic and eklectric guitars from Jim Milne and the dynamic drumming from Steve Clayton.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent I agree with Julian Cope's recent website review, 29 Mar. 2013
I approached buying this album with trepidation as one reviewer here mentiond lots of radio tracks and was quite negative, in fact there is one rare radio track here, but I had also read at least twenty good reviews in magazines and on websites for this album set and in particular Julian Cope gave it a stunning review, so I bought it and I was not at all disappointed , in fact thwe whole album is excellent. Lets hope there is more unreleased material to come from Tractor. Every track on The Road from Townhead Mill is excellent and I agree with Kevin Rathert who reviews it on Amazon- a five star buy

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful book, box and great cds, 23 Jun. 2012
I bought the box set having read some of the great reviews in a variety of magazines the last month or two and I was not dissappointed, the box artwork is amazing, the book on the Grateful Dead in the UK in the 1970s and Bickershaw is a beautiful hardback on art paper and stuffed with photos. the six cds of audio give you a great insight into the Bickershaw Festival especially the four Grateful Dead official Rykodisc/Warners CD's. i believe there are only 500 boxed sets planned initially so get yours before it sells out.

5.0 out of 5 stars insight into early John Cooper Clarke, 26 May 2012
About time there was a cd of his early work with Hannett and Ryan Carter. This is John Cooper Clarke at his best just the poet by a mic with a tape machine running. An insight into his early career, a real curate's egg, studio tracks that are obviously under construction back then, rare live takes recorded by Hannett, short quips from JCC as he wittily comments on all sorts of things for example " I remember when they had ventriloquists on the radio". Quality varies from track to track as it is all archive stuff but a fantastic collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars stunning progressive rock meets folk, 5 Mar. 2012
It is really no wonder that Phil Collins got these guys removed off the support spot on the Foxtrot tour back in 1972/1973, although we are told Peter Gabriel loved the fact String Driven Thing were getting three or four encores a night. Tony Stratton Smith head of Charisma just couldn't see the potential in String Driven Thing. Just listen to Grahame Smith's stunning violin on this album interwined with the guitar and vocals of Chris Adams and harmonies and percussion from Pauline Adams and bass from Colin Wilson. The other great news is there will be a 40th Anniversary London date in 2012 with Grahame, Chris and Pauline. Thanks to Ozit Morpheus Records for unearthing this superb live album, the sleeve cd booklet is superb too.Get your cd bought now you won't be sorry

5.0 out of 5 stars Avant garde live Beefheart at his best, 5 Feb. 2012
Continuing the collections of tracks from John Peel's live tapes. The audio quality is not brillant but the outlandish performances from Don and various line ups of the Magic Band make it a worthwhile buy.The Captain is only several people away from being himself!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent archive concert, 28 Dec. 2011
The quality of this film footage considering it is 1963 is amazing- where has this been languishing until now. It is black and white which adds to the feel of the event. Filmed when these US blues Legends toured England in 1963- an absolute must have fantastic quality considering the year songs from Memphis Slim, Willie Dixon,Matt Guitar Murphy, Big Joe Williams,Lonnie Johnson, Victoria Spivey, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters- fantastic sleeve artwork too
