One Live - In Stockholm
One Live - In Stockholm
Price: £15.39

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 11 May 2014
This review is from: One Live - In Stockholm (Audio CD)
Bought this from Frontier's rock festival.Technically it isn't perfect. The lighting in the club didn't help much and gives this release a bootleg like feel (especially in the beginning). There are occasionally some digital artefacts (like black circles) from the lights behind the band that are a little disturbing. Also the stage is very small and the band doesn't have space to breath (especially JSS who looks like a giant). Other than that it is indeed a very intimate performance, the band is in full flight, the songs are amazing (including songs from Work of Art, Eclipse and Talisman). And you also get 2 CDs so you can enjoy the concert in you car. A great release overall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good effort, would be even better if it was more consistent., 11 May 2014
This review is from: LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE (Audio CD)
It is indeed a Bon Jovi imitation but the good news is that it's a good one. It's better than anything Bon Jovi has recorded in the last 10 years. If all the songs were in the same level as "Kickin’ My Heart Around" and especially "How Can I Miss You" then it would be a 5 star album. These days, Jon would pay a million bucks to come up with a song like "How can I miss You". Good effort, would be even better if it was more consistent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Historic footage!!!, 29 April 2014
Amazing stuff. Excellent song selection performed by a band in their best period. My only minus would be that there are occasional dust and scratches on the print that could probably be cleaned with a more thorough video restoration. Wide shots are grainy but this is normal for a '79 video. On the good side, there are some amazingly clear close ups! Also the 5 bonus audio tracks would be better accompanied by some archival video footage of the band (not necessarily live, but also from interviews, tv appearences, on the road, etc). Instead they are served with a power point like photo collage which is rather boring. The audio is overall satisfactory. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4,5 stars for Sir Paul in this one!, 26 April 2014
Amazing setlist. The two shows have only 1 song in common, therefore we have here 30 different songs played live. I would also prefer the red square concert as a whole and the interviews separately as an extra. But at least the songs are played in their entirety. Also the picture is not the best I've seen in a DVD. I also agree that the edit suffers from the now standard 1 shot per second illness. But my eyes have got used to it by now. Still, this is an amazing DVD. Summarizing, this is a 4 star review plus half a star for a wonderful surprise. The fact that the WHOLE film has subtitles on it. Even the songs are presented with their lyrics on-screen offering an amazing almost-karaoke experience. RECOMMENDED!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars I would expect a lot more from a Stratovarious video!, 21 April 2014
Not too bad if you like seeing rock musicians drinking to death, throwing cakes at each other or blowing up toilettes. The audio/video quality is mostly bad throughout. This DVD is cleverly presented as a home video by the two Timos. And it's exactly that. A home video. Actually most home videos look and sound better than this one. You don't see a lot of interesting stuff, mostly the band fooling around. Strickly for hard core fans of the band. I would give this 2,5 to 3 stars but I didn't manage to find a way to play the bonus official videos. Probably I got a defective copy?!? The links seem to be pointing nowhere. I would expect a lot more from a Stratovarious video...

It's rather disapointing but not as much as most reviewers suggest. It has some interesting stuff (archive footage) but it is all over the place. Most reviewers are right about most things. No Beatles or George's music, random order, shorter than claimed on the sleeve. I would also add that the lack of subtitles is also a problem (especially when trying to understand what George's classmate is trying to say). You cannot exactly call it a fraud since you are actually buying an unauthorised biography. Most unauthorised stuff are like this. A semi fraud maybe ;-) I bought it for less than 3 euros so I am not complaining that much...

Santana: A And E - Live By Request [DVD] [2012]
Dvd ~ Santana
Price: £3.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but excellent., 19 April 2014
Although it's only 12 songs and slightly above 1 hour, somehow manages to gather most of the songs I would like to hear. The setlist is a mixture of old and newer songs (6 songs from Supernatural and Shaman). Audio-Video is satisfying. I bought this supernaturally cheap and really enjoed it. Recommended...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but very very good!, 16 April 2014
Amazing Manowar setlist, 2 shows, around 2 and a half hours of Manowar edited in a way that focuses purely on the songs and not on the usual 'true kings of metal warriors manowar kills f@cks etc' imagery. By checking the complete setlists that were played in the two shows, it is clear that many amazing songs were left out. A couple of them could be included here if the non-songs 'Sun Of Death' and 'Screams Of Blood' were left out, or if the bonus tracks or the songs from other bands that played in the festival were cut down a bit. Technically, there is an occasional flicker in some of the long shots especially in the german show. But nothing that is too obvious. Despite its minor flows, it is undeniable that it contains A LOT of big songs performed very very well. And most importantly it is a DVD that shows Manowar's serious side. From the cover that does not show monster warriors, naked women and decapitated enemies, down to the actual footage itself that is focused on what should be the essence of every band's performance: the music. Well done. Recommended...

4.0 out of 5 stars There's life after Blackmore?, 14 April 2014
Yes there is. Very nice 4 DVD compilation of 1995-2002 material featuring Mr. Morse on guitar. Worths getting it for Maybe I'm a Leo, Bloodsucker, Mary Long, as well as for the Battle rages on and Abandon material alone. Add to that another 7-8 hours of material and you've got a real winner. Minus one star for having most of the standard songs played over and over again, i.e. in all 4 concerts. Nevertheless, a must for all Purple fans! Add to that the co-existence of Lord and Airey on NEC 2002. Buy it ;-)

Uriah Heep: Magic Night [DVD]
Uriah Heep: Magic Night [DVD]
Dvd ~ Uriah Heep

4.0 out of 5 stars The high -as usual- live Heep standard is here as well..., 2 April 2014
Worths buying this for Pilgrim and the two Goalby songs alone. I didn't know that the Magician's birthday was actually played but not included in the DVD. That's too bad. It's interesting though that (and you can see it if you pause at the moment the camera shows the setlist in front of Kerslake) One Way Or Another was to be played on that night between Bad Bad Man and Devil's Daughter but for some reason it was left out at the end. A very nice DVD overall...
