The Iron Curtain: My Rugby Journey from League to Union
The Iron Curtain: My Rugby Journey from League to Union
by Phil Larder
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £15.33

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting, 1 Nov. 2015

Very interesting book about his switch from league to union and his influence on union defence. More about his time coaching rugby league clubs would have been good, but overall enjoyed it.

I don't usually read medical books but this was excellent. But don't give it to anyone who might have brain surgery.

This review is from: The Rocky Road (Kindle Edition)
A well written account of Eamon Dunphy's life, which was controversial at times. I was only aware of him as a footballer, but he has also developed a second career as a journalist.

Dreams Never End - a London Rugby League memoir
Dreams Never End - a London Rugby League memoir

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough, 19 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
While there is the occasional perceptive insight, far too much of the book is a succession of results, with little analysis. As a memoir, it also includes Ferrier's grudges against the club - he was paid late on occasion, and wasn't given recognition of his work operating the scoreboard on match days, for which he was given free admission. He also includes material about his former employers, one of whom gave him pizza for lunch which he didn't like. It is hard to see the relevance of this.
There is the need for a book that looks at the London Broncos / Harlequins performance in Super League, but this book barely scratches the surface.

Christy Moore is one of my favourite singers, and is particularly good live. A couple of songs I had not heard before combined with old favourites.

4.0 out of 5 stars 1970s trade unionism, 22 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An interesting autobiography from someone heavily involved in the frontline of trade union struggles in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as childhood and early life memories.
