Never heard of the man before now but this documentary has made me a fan of his music - if you could imagine a cross between the voice of Jose Feliciano and the song-writing talent of Bob Dylan, but with extras, then that is Rodriguez. A very enjoyable film with detective work behind the scenes

3.0 out of 5 stars Distinctly unforgettable, 26 Mar. 2017

certainly not a comedy - not even"amusing" and certainly cannot be described as "hilarious" as one reviewer said. Light-hearted would be a better description, with an emphasis on the role of an "enforcer" - basically a skill-less skater who looks after his team and intimidates the opposition. Acting is below average, storyline predictable, outcome obvious. Watch it for its duration then forget it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sandra Bullock deserved her Oscar but the whole cast give great performances, 22 Mar. 2017

Sandra Bullock gives a great performance here - amusing, steely, confrontational, loving and so on. The true story obviously was geed up a bit for the film but the facts are true, the outcome known. Great performances from everyone in the film and highly recommended

4.0 out of 5 stars Please watch and enjoy. Better than you think it will be, 19 Mar. 2017

This is a very poignant film with sad bits. I am usually a sci-fi-, adventure-, action-type film buff but this is a very good film. It doesn't dwell long on any part of BB's life and his experiences and it works well in that respect. None of the principal players need to act much but that is not a criticism as the storyline is what actually keep you watching, wanting to know how the whole act will play out. F Scott Fitzgerald's story (which I haven't read) must have been a flash of inspiration and this film has taken that premise and produced a film that is spot on. My only grumble would be the deathbed acting of Cate Blanchett as her dialogue is very mumbling and difficult to pick up sometimes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, but too militaristic with a clever ending, 8 Mar. 2017

This review is from: Ender's Game (Blu-ray)
A bit OTT with a military scenario with children - OK the premise was that the children were good at video games and therefore could adapt tactically in a real-world scenario - but the military thing went too far.
Nice story though with 2 great twists at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically non-PC funny film with great acting, 26 Feb. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the funniest thing that I have seen in years - good acting, funny non-PC jokes, lots of swearing that fits in with the whole ambience of the film, light-hearted with in-jokes (vide the one about the writer of the film's songs) and the appearance of a "special guest" from the future.
Very highly recommended!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too impossible to believe, a travesty of the book, 22 Feb. 2017

This review is from: The Last Templar (DVD)
The book was great but this was a story adaptation for TV - with love interest, a smattering of sex, impossible situations (earthquake just as they find the artefact? diving in the Med in a storm? surviving such a storm?), but with a reasonable storyline behind it all. The second part deteriorated into a religious philosophical discussion about life, the universe and everything. As others have pointed out - Lara Croft meets Indiana Jones in the DaVinci Code. Couldn't have put it better myself, but read the book instead.

This is unmitigated drivel - not a comedy, not anything. OK well acted by two scions of the British film industry in their younger days, but this is no way can be regarded as classic in any way, shape or form.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overly long sales pitch for Brand and Hill, 29 Jan. 2017

Like others posting here, I am not a fan of the person who is Russell Brand. As an actor I was very pleasantly surprised with his abilities in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (which has a small cameo here) but in this film, he just played himself or rather his persona - an obnoxious git.
Jonah Hill was likewise disappointing and the whole film was a tad too long with a simple storyline being padded out to fill in the idea - there was no tension at all as to whether the meet time at the venue would be met - but tension, in a comedy? Nothing as basic as that so the film was just a long sales pitch for Brand and Hill with a lot of swearing and not even amusing sexual references that other films have bettered. Whiles away the hours but watch and forget.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overly long, mumbling dialogue but a good premise, 22 Jan. 2017

Graphically very good with some real science behind it but at the end it got unbelievable with a very contrived ending. Dialogue was OK but Matthew McConaughey's mumbling throughout the whole film was a great irritation which spoiled the film for me. Overly long as well.
